Houston has made over $71 million probably close to $80-$90 million in his lifetime. If you think he's still playing football for cash you're crazy, he has plenty of avenues he could be taking now that doesn't involve getting concussions.

These guys have a lifestyle that they need to be able to afford long after they retire. Houses, cars, vacations and families with some having very big families and kids with multiple different mothers and that's all a lifestyle that they need to be able to afford for many years after their playing days even the ones that have already made $100 mil and even the ones that have made over $200 mil.

No. Floyd came on last year at the end of the season and is young. Houston is just a short term signing.

I mean he's still only 30 so he could be looking for a 3 or even 4 year contract but as we know it's all about the guaranteed money so while he could get a 4 year deal, he could get let go after 2 without it costing the team depending on what the guaranteed money is of course. Maybe if he sits out there long enough he'll give in on a 1 or 2 year deal and if he does then hopefully that will be with the Bears.

None of those avenues are going to pay him 12-14 million a year.

71 million
40 after taxed
38 after agent fees

A couple of bad investments mixed in and most of these guys need to maximize their earning potential.

Someone can correct me if Im off on my est... but Houston is about a $13-17mil/yr FA (his last contract was $15, he wasn't re-signed at a discount, still a 9 sack rusher, then inflation). We only have $16mil, with some other, likely minor, signings to do, not including any extensions.

So signing Houston is impossible.

Why would he take 1/2 what he can earn?
The are few 2nd week $15M FA contracts. There is obviously something that teams are seeing that are preventing that big offer. Health, age, who knows, but the long he sits the more it seems he will be an $8M-10M guy.

If you were correct he would have retired or taken a vet minimum deal to play for the Pats by now. So yes he is still playing for money, he just isn't getting offered what he is willing to accept yet. That will change once his reality kicks in.

Wow i actually have come to expect better jokes from you. That was horrible but please keep trying.

I would like to add that i have now become a big Jay Cutler fan, The television Jay Cutler that is. I love his dry humor on that reality show he's on about his wifey. Don't know why i felt like adding this but i did so if you don't like it......well i don't really care.

It could end up being like the N.Suh situation he went through last year sitting out there in free agency and still ended up getting a large one year contract from the Rams. I think he got like $14-$15 mil or some shit like that. I'm wishing against it and wishing for the Bears to get him at 2 years $14-$16 mil with $10 guaranteed though.

Damn it i'm so anxious to see who Pace is gonna get to help K.Mack and L.Floyd rush the passer. I see this as a very big need especially with L.Floyd's health always a question mark. It would be nice to be able to get one of the guys that have been cut so we can keep that comp pick but like i said, this is a big need for us so for the right guy i'd let the comp pick go. Here's another list of some guys we could look at to take that spot.

https://dawindycity.com/2019/03/18/chicago-bears-free-agency-edge-rushers/

A week into NFL free agency, and the Chicago Bears have yet to make an addition to the edge rusher position. There are still some cheaper options available.
Ryan Pace has made it apparent his Chicago Bears are on a mission. A week ago, he cleared up an extra $13 million in cap space within 24 hours, ensuring he was not going to be without cash during the 2019 edition of NFL free agency.

Some thought this was Pace gearing up for guys like Le’Veon Bell, Justin Houston or even Earl Thomas. While Bell and Thomas have already signed elsewhere and Houston is still out there, it appears as though Pace might be purposefully flying under the radar with his extra cap room.

It’s still a possibility he brings in an old friend of head coach Matt Nagy and adds Houston. But, maybe that money was set aside to begin planning the future signings he’s going to have to make in his existing locker room.

Pace did make a few moves already in free agency, starting with running back Mike Davis and nickel corner Buster Skrine. He continued by inking return specialist and offensive weapon Cordarrelle Patterson, followed by adding a former nemesis in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Add in the speedy Marvin Hall and veteran offensive lineman Ted Larson, and Pace has actually made several signings.

Although none are as splashy as last offseason, these are all calculated moves. The Bears still need to add to a few positions; one being edge rusher. Pace has to add some depth behind Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd. Maybe he goes after one in the draft and another veteran on the cheap.

Which guys are still available who wouldn’t cost too much? Let’s look at a few.

Remember, some of these guys would be deeper adds. Even bringing them into training camp to see what they could offer might be worth a shot, if only they’re brought in on a low-cost budget.

If I had a guess with Nagy's familiarity, I would bet there is a standing offer out there for Houston by the Bears and that if he comes to the point that he realizes that that # will be a best or close to best # he will get, he will be a Bear. I think Pace is generally very disciplined when it comes to his FA or draft board values. I think Parkey and then Glennon were the biggest examples of him stretching to overpay unproven or inconsistent talent out of desperation and it has bit him in the ass both times.

From Rotoworld: The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec believes free agent OLB Justin Houston is currently too expensive for the Ravens.
The Ravens need a pass rusher, but Zrebiec points to reports that Houston might fetch $10 million for 2019. At least in the public sphere, Houston has been greeted by an ice cold market, with nary a visit to report. That should change at some point during this second week of free agency.

Chicago is a beautiful summer city. I think Houston would be very happy. Street festivals, Lincoln Park Zoo, riding his bike on Lakeshore.

All great reasons for him to come here.
