You can help Chicago Fire Fans fight hunger with our Virtual Food Drive

Section 8 Chicago would like to invite you to join in the fight against hunger in our community by supporting the Greater Chicago Food Depository through the 2011 S8C Virtual Food Drive. All donations raised through the Virtual Food Drive will be earmarked to help the Food Depository purchase nutritious, high-quality food for hungry individuals and families in Chicagoland.

Why a Virtual Food Drive? The answer is simple – to get more food to more people in need. Through the Virtual Food Drive, the Food Depository can purchase food in bulk quantities, at prices well below the market rate. All the items on our food drive have been identified by the Food Depository as ones that are in high demand. Won’t you please join us in helping to provide food for the nearly 142,200 people who rely on the Food Depository each week?

Section 8 Chicago has long taken pride in being actively involved in the community and the world around us. Please join us in supporting this effort from now until January 15 by clicking here.

Do it.

What did you have for breakfast today? Did all of your neighbors get to have a breakfast today? Don't be so sure. The effects of the recent economy on working people in Illinois have been devastating. Those who are particularly vulnerable-the unemployed, the under-employed, the elderly and the disabled-are in desperate need. As unemployment rises and the state of Illinois experiences further budget crisis, a growing number of working people are falling into poverty.

You can help Section 8 combat hunger in Chicago by participating in our Virtual Food Drive.

Section 8 Chicago is proud to play a contributing role in the community and we extend a big thank you to all of you who made it possible for us to exceed our goals in 2010 by raising over 10K for charitable causes. We'd like to keep that positive momentum going to help get through this tense offseason. The team on the field may need some rebuilding right now, but Section 8 Chicago is always looking to strengthen the foundations of the Chicago Fire, in the stands and in the community at large, in both good times and bad.

This on line food drive will be up and running throughout the entire month of January.

Thanks,

This Saturday from 2-8pm, Section 8 Chicago will host a food drive (in partnership with The Greater Chicago Food Depository) at Small Bar Fullerton

Please drop off what you can and stay for a beer with us. In fact, our partner bar Small Bar has even made a deal where for $20 you'll get some drink tickets and unlimited appetizers! Best of all is that a fairly good portion of that money will also go towards our food drive!

So far this month the online food drive has raised over $1,500 and last weekend at another food drive at the Jewel on Ashland and Diversy we were able to collect 26 banana boxes full of food---a truly impressive haul, and a humbling display by the patrons of that store to further our cause and fight hunger in the greater Chicagoland area.

We hope that you are able to participate and join us either in person or online.

thank you.

BUMP.....

with a little less than half a month left to go, we've raised over $2,000 in online donations and almost 1,500lbs in actual food that has been delivered to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Please consider keeping the momentum by emailing your contacts about this--even if they're not interested in soccer, that's ok because we're trying to feed the hungry in the Chicagoland area. With YOUR help, we will continue to do this!

Thanks for helping those less fortunate!.

We have folks out there that might even like to help more locally to where they live--if you feel so inclined, you can always go onto the Section 8 Chicago forums, register there and ask for volunteers!

In fact, we have an Elgin-specific crew that comes out to every game, they might want to know.
