What does tifo mean?

Tifos, originally the Italian word for the phenomenon of supporting a sport team, is mostly used as a name for any spectacular choreography displayed by supporters on the terraces of an arena or stadium in connection with a sport event, mostly an association football (soccer) match.

Tifos are most commonly seen in important matches, local derbies and rivalries and although the tradition originated at club teams, some national teams also have fans that organize tifos on a regular basis.

Here is a collection of what we have done over the years supporting the Chicago Fire Soccer Club.

Here is the kicker, all these tifos you see below were all paid by the supporters. Through donations, tailgates, raffles, and other fund raising ventures, Section 8 Chicago has been able to pull off some extraordinary stuff.

This was actually given to us by PUMA. The only corporate display we have.

Section8 ftw. Would love to see something like they've put together for the other teams in Chicago.

Except that doesn't fit Baseball too well, IMO. Be cool for the Hawks though. :shifty:

If memory serves me right, I know for a game or two last year, there was a group of White Sox fans that were trying to get together with supporters and get a similar environment going at a Sox game. not sure what actually became of that, however. Since it had to do with the Sox I wanted no part.

The Blackout? They just had everyone wear black for a key game in 2008.

No, in the late 70's and early 80's there was a group of White Sox fans that did tifo in the stands at Comisky. I was young and I remember them, last season (at the very end), a few of us were invited by a long-time White Sox fan--as well as the Sox FO to come to a game and see if it would be something that we could get going again.

As I'm not a baseball fan, I have no interest, but I did support them with some ideas and materials and I know a few of our guys went there and waved some flags and sang some songs.....Old timers were receptive. New folks that are used to sitting on their hands thought it a distraction.

It may happen again this season.
