White Sox sign OF Milledge to minors deal

White Sox signed OF Lastings Milledge to a minor league contract.
The contract includes an invite to spring training. Milledge, who turns 26 in April, was left unsigned all winter, possibly due to character concerns that have followed him for a few years now. He batted .277/.332/.380 with four home runs and 32 RBI with the Pirates last season, including a .320 batting average and .926 OPS against southpaws. It's a pretty low risk move, even with the supposed baggage. Feb. 3 - 1:05 pm et

Pros and Cons

He is a pain in the ass as far as his attitude. This guy was once the untouchable prospect, and he never filled his expectations.

he is still very young, and he might be able to turn it around. and he is very cheap.

if he makes the squad as a 4th outfielder it is fine.

I think a new change of scenery will help him and he will be very effective as a 4th outfielder

Well he will be around a winning organization and good players manager. I like it, he was rumored to be part of the Jermaine Dye to Mets deal a few years back but the deal never materialized

Ya it couldnt hurt. Could be a win win situation. With his potential and CQ's health at times. We'll see

I see this signing like the Andruw Jones, low salary, great performance

I wonder if signing Lastings cheap gives KW the flexibility to possibly trade TCQ with the surplus OF'ers of Milledge, Lillibridge, De Aza, Teabag, etc. Granted none of them are any good, but, how good has Quentin been besides 2008? Not advocating it, just wondering.

this is a great low risk pick up on the cheap for a kid with upside and all he needed was to mature and for this price with the clubhouse we have its ano-brainer to me... better than having Kotsay & A.Jones around for 1Mil+. He's young and he and DeAza can compete for the 4th OF spot and really bring more younth to this team finally instead of o'l farts JMHO

Id rather throw this guy 500k with his age, than to give 500k or more plus incentives etc to some guy who used to be good, or descent and is old.

If they only play him against left handers it'll be an alright signing. He doesn't have much power though, despite all the potential he has/had to develop more power

a 20 HR guy that the mets refused to trade in the deal for johan santana. crazy how some of these "untouchable" prospects never make it.

I believe he also caused a Manny deal to fall apart because he was untouchable.
