It was rumored by MLSR that Uruguayan forward Gaston Puerari was linked to a move to MLS in December. Now here is the official announcement from Chicago Fire Soccer Club.
The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced the signing of Uruguayan forward Gaston Puerari from Montevideo Wanderers. The 25-year-old striker leaves the Primera Division Uruguay to join the Men in Red and will be added to the club’s roster upon the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Puerari becomes the 12th player added to the Fire’s preseason roster following the conclusion of the 2010 MLS season in late October.

“Gaston is a talented, offensive player with the ability to make an impact for our club,” said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. “We are excited to bring in a player with quick feet, good passing skills and the ability to finish on goal. Gaston’s work ethic and drive to win makes him a perfect fit to represent the Fire badge.”

Puerari tallied eight goals in 35 league appearances since joining Wanderers at the start of the 2009 season. Prior to joining Wanderers, the speedy forward scored six goals over the course of 30 matches and two stints with Uruguayan side Rampla Juniors, including his professional debut in 2007 and again during the 2008-2009 season.

Born in Paysandu, Uruguay, Puerari spent the 2008 season with Ecuadorian outfit Club Sport Emelec.

I know the club can be slow to anounce these things sometimes, but you do know that they post this info on the club's website, right?

EVERYTHING on MLSR is to be taken with a very serious grain of salt--they're not the most accurate and they do not fact-check well. Yes, I'm saying this b/c I've worked with them a long time ago.

That being said, I have yet to see him play in person. The general concensus is that he's a great handler, great at fighting for posession, but not the best shooter. It leads me to believe that Frank and DLC have another striker in mind who's finishing is more technical.

I'm also fairly confident that the second unnamed player that they are going to announce is a Colombian striker.

I just post the rumors. Didn't feel like typing in the Fire's website when I had this right here, and it said official.
