Typical Cubs.

They are moving Cashner (3-0 with sub 1 ERA) out of the rotation and into the bullpen.

I pray to God this doesn't turn into Jeff Samardzija version 2.0. I know Cashner is more talented but you can't deny that all the shuffling didn't affect Samardzija.

agree, he should be in the rotation. but maybe they want to get his feet wet and ease him into the rotation.

First Jay Jackson and now Cashner. Are they trying to ruin their future?

Just because Shark failed doesn't mean Cashner or Jackson will. His situation has nothing to do with these two. Shark just sucks period. Do you think his lack of success has more to do with switching from starter to reliever or because the only place he can locate his fastball is right over the heart of the plate? He was overrated and had hype coming from a big name school and playing two sports.

I'm not saying it's the right move. It could very well end up being a bad move. But, Samardzija has nothing to do with Cashner.

Sharks can, or at least could pitch. Notice that ERA in the 2's in his rookie season.

What a dumb move. Why are they doing this with these guys? He is pitching great as a starter. The Cubs boggle my mind with the moves they make.

You can't honestly say though that Samardzija switching roles didn't affect him at all. I know Cashner/Jackson are better pitchers regardless, but why ruin a good thing?

Carie Muskat just posted this:

Andrew Cashner will join the Cubs this week but not Monday in Pittsburgh. Lou Piniella was correct in saying Cashner will get called up this week but no date has been set. The Cubs' 2008 No. 1 Draft pick has made two relief appearances for Triple-A Iowa and Piniella wants another right-hander to balance out the 'pen makeup. With Tom Gorzelanny shifting from the rotation to the 'pen, the Cubs will have four lefties in Gorzelanny, John Grabow, Sean Marshall and James Russell.
