it is all about needs, what do you use your PC for ETC... If you are just using it to get through college and DL music and look at porn than you can go on the cheap.

What Kind Of Desktop/Laptop Do You Have?

I was just curious what everyone has for a desktop/laptop and how well they like theres and what not.
I have an HP desktop with an AMD Quad Core Processor 2.2 ghz with 8 gbs of ram. It runs pretty well. I'm thinking about buying a Macbook Pro but I'm not for sure yet.

Sounds like we have the same desktop almost. Except mine is a 2.4ghz quad core. I have 2 24" monitors as well. My laptop is ok. It's a quadcore w/ 4GB and a 17" display. I can't remember the processor speed off the top of my head. 2.something. Win 7 Pro, 64 bit running on both. I have virtual box on my desktop w/ a few other OS' though (Ubuntu etc).

I built my own in 2008..I already forget most of what I have.

I have a Quad-Core Processor..I forget what ghz it is.

2 GB of DDR2 RAM..2 GB of DDR3 RAM.

I have over 3 TB of hard drive space.

I forget what Graphics Card I have...I think its a ATI Radeon 5800 or something like that.

I have two monitors..an old 20 inch widescreen Dell monitor and a 23-inch LED LCD LG Monitor.

I have a 25.5 inch Hp monitor and also another monitor but I dont know the screen size maybe 20 inch as well? I wish my desktop was intel sometimes so I could install OSX on it as well but since mines an AMD Processor I cant. I'm not for sure about my graphics card I'll have to look it up,its pretty good overall I think though.

Nice one for having over 3 tbs of hard drive space. I think mine might be 1 TB?
Either way I also have a usb powered 500 gb external hd and also a 2 tb western digital hard drive I bought not too long ago.

My main project system that Im on most of the time.

Tyan S8230 series
SMP Dual AMD Opteron MC 6174 @ 2.2GHz
16GB 4x4 1333 RAM
ATi Radeon 1GB 5850
Asus Xonar

I usually boot off my own LFS 2.6.37 64-bit kernel right now. I'll VM/NX into other OS's, Windows 7, OSX 10.6.2(been to lazy to attempt an upgrade because OSX is so useless for me, but I still need it for testing purposes once in a while.)
Sometimes I just boot off Windows 7 and NX into another machine too.

My secondary unit is a phenom II X4 3GHz system, 6GB ram, ATi 4650 1GB. I usually just load compiles, renders, or transfers off it, because it does use about 1/2 the power. It's a good system just for downloading crap, and it can still handle anything that I throw at it.

I have a joojoo tablet, an HP netbook, and some retired systems for emergency/home lan stuff. An old VIA c3 ITX system loaded with frisco linux for my WIFI and NAS access. A modded PS3 with linux for my HTPC now.... hmmmm.... other that spare parts and personal CPU collections, thats about it.

You can hackintosh AMD chips. I'm not 100% sure if 10.7 has been worked around yet, but AMD chips do run OSX.

that isnt a bad setup.

Good cost-conscious setup.

The sound quality from the speakers is awesome for the price. I'd definitely buy a similarly-priced Creative Labs speaker system again.

Why don't you get a windows based laptop? You'll probably get one with double the power of the mac plus its probably cheaper.
