M.L.S. and NBC Sports Announce New TV Deal - NYTimes.com

Major League Soccer and NBC Sports on Thursday will announce a new three-year agreement to televise 45 league matches and 4 United States national team games on the main network and on the NBC Sports Network, which will be the new name of the current cable station Versus. The deal will end the league’s relationship with Fox Soccer, which recently signed a one-year deal to carry matches in 2011.

this should make you very happy WFHs

:angryfinger:

So now we'd rather not have a league at all in the US rather than try to grow it into a better league?

if it grows into a better league then great...right now it blows and there should be better options for nbc to bring on

By flops did you mean have the contract terminated, or fold?

I took it to mean that you wanted the MLS to fold?

With the US becoming Hispanic, it won't be too much longer methinks.

It is a great deal for a developing league. I've seen it develop from a VERY painful to watch style to what we have now--which IS faaaaaaar better than where we have been.

Those of you lacking in internal fortitude to do the civic thing and support your local side and the development of the sport in this country, or europhiles who only have interest in watching top caliber footy, or glory-hunter fans probably will cringe at this deal--and that's fine. Then go pay for the 'premium' products on the 'premium' channels. Domestic and nation-wide broadcast for the domestic and nation-wide league is just the thing that is needed for the growing league.

Trade from 4 days ago:
HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls acquired midfielder Stephane Auvray in a trade from Sporting Kansas City.

The Red Bulls traded away their second-round pick in the 2013 MLS draft.

Auvray is expected to help New York contend for the league playoffs by shoring up the Red Bulls' midfield defense. The captain of Guadeloupe's national team, Auvray has only made six appearances for Sporting KC this season.

He is expected to be available for coach Hans Backe in Saturday's game against the Chicago Fire.

Freddy Back with Piotr will be an interesting thing since Freddy didn't want to listen to Piotr while at DCU--let's see if the years away have helped Freddy mature--if so.....oh boy.

Good bit of business for NYRB there, Auvery will cover a need they have--in fact, he looked ok against the Fire this past weekend.

Vancouver will be an UGLY OVERLY PHYSICAL team with Rennie as coach.

I'm also interested to see what Jesse Marsh will do with Montreal. A lot in the Fire community are not thrilled that he wasn't interviewed for the Fire job. I'm not one of those folks. When your first year team wins the double and is one of the (arguably) best teams in MLS history, chances are a few years down the road many of them will be coaches or interviewed for the positions.
