Default Roy Williams "not in shape"

The Chicago Bears offense is having trouble coming together, CSN Chicago reports, and one of the problems is that 29-year-old wide receiver Roy Williams, who joined the Bears after three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, is not in shape.

The site notes that Williams is fully aware of this, reporting that when asked what the biggest thing is for him to work on, he said, "My conditioning. Getting my wind right. You have to be able to run in this offense. Run all day long."

Williams claims that he'll be ready by the time the season kicks off. "I'm a firm believer in no matter what you do in the offseason, nothing will get you football ready except for playing football," Williams said, the site reports. "That's what I believe. It's tough. You can run all the hills and mountains that you want to, but when you get out here and play for four seconds and jog back to the huddle, that's what gets you in shape."

Williams had 37 carries lasat year for the Cowboys, gaining 530 yards and five touchdowns.

Roy is right, all the running and working out is putting you in shape. Now he is just trying to get in football shape. You can only get in football shape by playing football. That is all he is saying. Everybody in the league is going through the same thing.

Roy Williams is the number one, all right. The #1 worst receiver.

Da Bears should cut him by Week 4. He's not deserving of Jay Cutler's pinpoint passing.

I would guess that a lot of guys aren't in game shape yet because there were no off-season workouts.

3 more weeks should be enough time to get in decent shape.

I would be concerned if he wasn't in shape in the middle of the season

Williams at $1.5M is much better than Sims-Walker at 3.5 million.

frankly i think just roy williams is not very good period

but i do think regardless of whether there are off season workouts or not roy williams should be staying in shape

i'm sure he has plenty of time to get back in shape though

Just because there aren't team organized workouts is no excuse for you to keep yourself in shape in the off-season. That's laziness and apathy on Williams' part.

Being in shape and in game shape, whether it's football, soccer, or basketball are different things. Roy is saying he is not in football shape. OTA's and offseason workouts don't put you into game shape. Having a full pad practice is putting you in football shape. That's why he said running a route, and jogging back to the huddle will help him. That's the shape he is getting into

Sigh, why am I not surprised. I honestly expect nothing this year, and this is why I continue to. I do think the Bears can finish really good (like last year), but I also think they can be god awful.

In my opinion, the biggest problem is that when Roy Williams' IS in "game shape", he's still a pretty middle of the pack NFL receiver. If he's NOT in game shape, the Bears are better off finding him a comfy seat on the bench and giving someone else an opportunity.

If Roy had showed up like that fat fuck Harrison, I'd be concern. Then again... at 350lbs plus, what CB could tackle a WR like that? lol Oh wait, he'd have a heart attack after 10 yards, never mind.

I've heard he's actually having a really good camp...which makes me think that this is just fodder for message boards and media to go ape-shit over.

I wanna see him play a few series', then I'll pass further judgment.

Why? Just because he lead the league in drops in 2009 and hasn't caught more than 38 passes the last two seasons?

why would that make him less than a #1? Forget his lack of production, the Bears say he's a number 1 so he must be, right?

I really didn't like his comments about getting in shape.

I'm paraphrasing but he said something like "the only way really to get into shape is to go out there and play football."

    Okay...

Williams claims that he'll be ready by the time the season kicks off.
Bwahahaha, I take Roy's claim just as seriously as I took that other claim he made before a Lions/Bears game in 2006...

Yeah, but Roy did win that game, as an individual, in his head. He got a first down, man! He should have said "I", but don't sweat the details
