i still say Cubs got better end of deal this year. Garza did exactly what we thought he do. Archer had rough year outside Cubs organization again. Chrinos and guyer both just role players. Lee had nice year but his last 114 AB is scary. I seen him play about 35 games with Chiefs and dont see him hitting much in MLB. Fuld just a role player..So basically Cubs gave up 3 role players, a SP that has only done well in Cubs orginazation and a SS who i dont see hitting in MLB for a 27 y/o SP who has top of rotation stuff. Hendry was good at one thing and that was TRADES. I say this another win for him

ambivalent about the trade overall

however,
in terms of now and recent future, garza is huge because our pitching would be beyond awful without him

he has been our lead pitcher and very consistent unlike some of the other pitchers in our rotation

some of the prospects i wish we hadnt sent like fuld and lee(especially with their defense), but i think garza and some side gain is not a bad return

Fuld was replace by Campana. Same type of players. Lee does have good DEF but do have to give up something to get 27 y/o SP with Garza stuff

And Fuld wasn't a prospct. More of a fill in, in Sep and/or injury.

Hellickson may not have gotten to shine if Garza wasn't traded.

Well, how can you say you won the deal when Garza pitches for a team that blows?

Well that may be true but Garza is under .500 in his career for a reason.

Based on his performance? Is that a serious question?

Probably lack of run support. That's probably the reason. So now we're using his career stats to see who won the trade given that he's been with the team for *almost* 10 months. That makes a lot of sense. It really does.

I never liked garza he just seems like a thug to me :dunno: I bet he stays though. I think we need to give him a year or two more to step up big time

lol@using a pitcher's record to directly determine their worth

that's like beyond cherry picking

if the cubs hadnt traded for garza they still would have blown

they traded some scraps and some good prospects not anyone that directly affected the team majorly(double meaning intended) in the 2011 season

if anything garza made the team better

LOL at him making the team better. Are you high?

And if he was so damn good then why did teams like Twins/Rays dump him quick?

They don't seem to miss the great Matt Garza.

I think you could argue that he made a shitty team slightly less shitty

The Twins dumped him because Tampa saw something that the Twins didn't see.

The Rays had to dump him because they wouldn't have been able to afford him down the line and saw an opportunity to restock their farm system.

I don't really think the Garza trade was wise per se but in the early going it's hard to argue that the Cubs didn't get the better end of the deal.
