This might sound crass, but I don't believe anything that comes from Scott Paterno. He released a bunch of press releases right after the news broke in Happy Valley. He likes to think he's some important figure because of whom his dad is. He reminds me of the Iraqi Press Secretary during the Gulf War and subsequent invasion.
