    Default Cards Name Matheny Manager

Anybody think Sandberg could take a coaching job (bench coach?) here if Boston passes him up too?

I'd love to see it, but I don't know if he'd want to or not. It'd be a good learning experience for him before he gets a manager's gig.

Hehe. I don't think it's out of the question. Would just make for a weird situation.

I love Ryno, love him, but 5yrs in the minors is just not enough experience to take over as a MLB manager, especially a team like the Cards or the Cubs. He needs to realize that he will have to start out as a bench coach or hitting coach if he ever wants to get a shot at the big promotion.

That's why I hate ryno, because he thinks he can step right up and be a huge success. It takes hard work not fame.

Warning, the following may be Not Safe For Work or a storyline spoiler.

I don't hate Ryno. I never will. But when you are considered an all-time great, you have that ego that tells you "You'll be great at anything you do", when Michael Jordan as already shown us that is clearly not the case.

Why wouldn't Ryno stay as a coach with the Phillies?

Sandberg has shown he has no ego

And finally where is Cubs manager a premier job instead of a stepping stone to just about any other team in baseball that actually wins titles? Comparing the Cubs opening to the Cards is Kool Aid my friends

Honestly, until the Cubs are rebuilt to contend, I'd prefer to manage the Cardnals than the Cubs.

Maybe because the Phillies already picked up their options on all of their coaches?

Sandberg will not get any major league job for at least two years. Just my opinion...

no manger would want Ryno on coaching staff forCubs. When cubs start losing or some questinable calls by manager fans would be yelling for Ryno. Manager would not want to look over his back everyday worrying if Ryno gets his job

Exactly and he's nowhere near ready for major-league managing

Ryno was and always will be a Cub. He loves the organization and should take a job as a bench coach if offered. Earn some experience before it's your turn to be a manager in the bigs.

Most managers when they get started are nowhere near ready for MLB That's why most of them get fired.

It looks like being a roaming specialist has gotten the first two jobs. So I guess I have a real shot at the Boston job. I'm not a specialist but I have no managerial experience

If you mean Robin Ventura and Mike Matheny, at least they've had playing experience at MLB level so it's not like they came out of the blue. Sometimes you just hire someone and hope it works out.

In the Cubs' case they're looking for someone who can actually implement a philosophy on the field instead of bunting/IBBing like a madman
