    next track to be repaved....kansas

Kansas Speedway will undergo a major facelift between its two Sprint Cup race dates in 2012.

The 1.5-mile track will be repaved and rebanked and a road course will be added into the infield.

"These are significant projects for Kansas Speedway and our fans," Kansas Speedway president Patrick Warren said in a release. "Given the harsh weather conditions in the Midwest, a repave of our existing racing surface was a must. Repaving a track is a huge undertaking so we decided it was the right time to make the other changes to our facility, which we believe will enhance our fans experience at Kansas Speedway."

The news doesn't come as a surprise as Warren said in June that the track was facing a repave in the future. With the new asphalt, the track will add variable banking in the corners from 18-20 degrees. In its current configuration, the corners at Kansas Speedway are banked at 15 degrees.

The road course — outlined in yellow in the picture above — is part of the provision that brought the Hollywood Casino to the track outside turn two and can be utilized for Grand-Am racing in the future.

Shit...Pocono is in the middle of being repaved...started in october. Paving will stop soon because it will be too cold. resume paving when weather warms up.Hopes to be done in april

Pocono Raceway announced Tuesday it has already begun repaving its 2.5-mile surface, making it the latest NASCAR track to put down new asphalt.

Phoenix International Raceway just finished repaving and reconfiguring its surface, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers are at a test today and Wednesday to try it out in advance of November's race weekend.

Kansas will repave its surface next year, and Michigan is currently repaving in time for the 2012 season. Daytona had new asphalt in time for this season's Daytona 500 after the infamous pothole debacle in 2010.

Here's a list of tracks who have repaved their surfaces in the last 10 years:

    Star-divide

    2012: Pocono, Michigan, Kansas

    2011: Daytona, Phoenix (reconfigured)

    2008: Darlington

    2007: Bristol

2006: Talladega, Charlotte, Las Vegas (reconfigured)

    2005: Indianapolis

    2004: Martinsville, Richmond

2003: Homestead-Miami (reconfigured), Infineon, New Hampshire

Tracks that have not re-paved in the last 10 years: Watkins Glen (partial repave in 2006), Texas (fixed dips in 2007), Kentucky (opened 2000), Chicagoland (opened 2001), Fontana (opened 1997), Atlanta (last repaved/reconfigured 1997), Dover (last resurfaced 1995).

If you ever need a sleep aid, watch a TNT broadcast of a Pocono race.

The only reason Kyle got anywhere in NASCAR was because of his last name. If he hadn't been The King's son, he'd most likely be still out there trading paint on local short tracks.

He actually has won 8 races haha His first from the famous Richmond race in '86 when Earnhardt wrecked Waltrip at Richmond. Also many will argue the same for E-Jr. But he is actually a good driver so that should hush up those people.

I don't understand dragging the Sox into this.

But, if that is how its going to be, then let me say, I will gladly enjoy a 60% full stadium that has fielded a world series champion team within the last couple of seasons. You can enjoy your sold out stadium and remember that glorious year of 1908.

That should be a good move. AJ is a good driver and not so much and asshole like Kurt. He should get some shots at a win.

Nobody's as big of an asshole as Kurt Busch, he's set the bar pretty high in that regard. I used to like him too, up until I saw that video of him being a complete dick to Jerry Punch.

What the hell is Phoenix Racing, lol? I'm not surprised that he can't do any better though, the dude's going to be a huge detriment to the inner-workings of any team that he's a part of, and all the "major" teams know this. This "Phoenix Racing" on the other hand, sounds like they're far enough down on the totem pole that they're willing to chance it. Don't get me wrong though, there's still a possibility that it could work, Kurt Busch obviously has a lot of talent.
