Carolina pick is a 3rd rounder.
All offensive woes aside, I think we should seriously look at offering the Carolina 2nd round and a mid-round pick(s) in 2013 for Osi Umenyiora.
His stock is as low as it will ever be (until he's too aged to play). He won't cost what Robert Mathis and John Abraham (who are also both older) will on the market, and Chicago got a lot of cap space to play with.
Also, we have to put things in perspective...we can still rebuild the offense by drafting Floyd/Jeffery/best OT and going after other areas of concern in FA. However, with Rodgers and Stafford in the NFC North for the next 5-8 years, we're going to need to get to the passer to get out of what is going to become one of the toughest divisions in football.
I really do understand that we need to put much attention into our OL and WR. It's imperative to improve there. However, we also greatly overestimate our pass rushing abilities. Melton's turning into a great disruptive 2-technique, and Izzy gets the the QB vs. average opponents, but imagine how much better our pass defense becomes if you have to worry about Peppers and Umenyiora. Our CBs won't be nearly as exploited. The benefits will show throughout the entire defense, including at safety (another area of conern). A pass rush is the most important thing in football, especially one that gets to the QB with only sending 4 guys.

Carolina pick is a 3rd rounder.
My argument still stands. My apologies on the gaffe.
I'd trade the Bears other 3rd round pick (via Carolina) and a 2013 2nd for Osi.
Remember the Patriot way, trading for/signing savvy veterans and drafting rookies out of the SEC.
I think his time is over in NY he said in superbowl week that his time in NY is coming to an end. I bet he gets cut they are only playing him 10-15 plays per game if they can get anything via trade that will be a good deal for them.
I understand that Emery is the new guy...and seems to come from a previous franchise that had a decent job scouting-wise...but it was also a franchise that stressed the acquisitions of veterans. The Patriots are solid at scouting OL and DL, but they have really struggled with college WRs and CBs.
If he goes for even less, I do it in a heartbeat. If he's going for a 3rd round pick...not many are going to be better than the Carolina 3rd....Chicago oughta at least make the call. Osi/Peppers is something very formidable...It'd rival Freeney/Mathis, Ware/Spencer, and Harrison/Woodley, as far as top pass rushing duos go.

If they'll take Carolina's 3rd, the deal should be considered done.
No. He'll be 31 in November and has knee issues.
Just draft a DE this yr, like Cam Johnson (UVA), Vinny Curry (Marshall), Andre Branch (Clemson) or Chandler Jones (Syracuse).
Wasn't there a rumor about a Briggs for Umenyiora trade?
If I'm the Bears I'd keep my draft picks unless there's a deal too good to pass up. If the Giants were to cut Osi and you guys could somehow sign him, then I think that'd be a nice fit. But I don't like the idea of giving up premium picks for a defensive end going on 31.
