Shea Weber pays pennies for deliberately crushing someone's head into the boards, but shaw may be suspended for accidental (and not as vicious) contact.....stupid
Has a discipline hearing with Shanahan for the collision with Smith.

You have to be kidding.
Yes, well knowing what type of a guy Shanahan is (meaning not particularly consistent), as a forward- I don't know -- Shaw probably should have probably not gone there. Nothing good was going to happen with that particular play.
Mind you, if it was any other position other than goalie - yeah sure go for it.
Mind you all I am saying is -never trust a goalie; those guys are different.
I am sure Shaw is going to get multiple games for this, and might be done for the postseason which is ridiculous compared to what other bigger names have (not) gotten so far. Again the incosnsistency of discipline and the enforcement of player safety is laughable in this league.
I agree...so much so that its an embarrassment. Weber gets off with a fine for repeatedly smashing a players head into the glass with his HANDS...not via a check. Now they're looking at the Shaw thing like he commited a murder when in actuality, if he wanted to injure Smith...he certainly could have but tried to slide between him and the boards. But of course, Shanahan will just flip a coin to decide.

He got the game misconduct. Had Smith actually have been hurt, then maybe Shanahan takes this further. Shaw will get a scolding.
Lucic didn't exactly try to scoot away from Miller and received no supplemental discipline, right?

Lucic is also alot bigger name than Shaw.
Smith is a fucking pussy.
I fully expect Smith to be at the Oscars next year.
Come on guys. I like Shaw but he was full speed shoulder into Smith's head. He should sit another game or two. Weber should have to sit also I agree with you on that. But Shaw is not innocent here. Smith may have embellished a bit but Shaw diffidently fucked Smith up. If he sits the whole postseason thats overkill one or two games.
ESPN Bracketology - First 4 out. As of Jan 15th
Shaw was leaning toward the boards, away from Smith, in an attempt to not hit him. There was no raising of a shoulder or throwing of an elbow in any manner. Shaw could've very easily "fucked Smith up." He chose not to.
A major and a game misconduct was punishment enough.

But player spinning madly to the ice, throwing his gloves, and flopping around for 10 minutes = five and a game.

you all know i dont drink kool aid.
This is fucking stupid! no way should he be suspended let alone have to meet with shanahan.
I cant believe its gone this far. what a fucking joke.
Bullshit. Total bullshit. That is all.
Signatures are overrated.
I mean look...Shaw deserved 2 minutes. Incidental contact or not, that is goaltender interference and just about everyone should be fine with that and understand it.
I realize it is a fast game and the refs have to call what they see (or think they see) but I just can't understand how a 5 minute penalty can ever be called in a situation like that.
If a goalie doesn't want to get hit, he should just stay in the crease.

Sure, but the rules say otherwise. The NHL even restricted where a goalie can go more so with the trapezoid. If Crawford went behind the net, like 99% of the goalies do to play a puck, and got railed...I don't think anyone here would be that thrilled or say that goalies shouldn't go out of their crease.
Im fine with it just being 2 mins...a major, game misconduct, and now a meeting is ludicrous

Which is the other thing -- (I haen't stayed up on the rules as well as I should) - but the trapazoid, as is my understanding, is the goalie's safe area -so even going back there when the goalie is making a play on the puck... well, bad things happen for your team in those situations.
:/ Whatever happens, hopefully it assists the rookie to get his head out of his rectum --- even the possibility of putting yourself in the position to have to kill off a major penalty when you didn't have to -is just plain stupid (even more stupid when your offense can be suspect at times)... in short the Hawks got lucky to even the series -- but luck still counts.
the trapezoid isn't a goalie safe area, its just there to limit where the goalies can go.
