Personally, if Theo Einstein and Jedi Hoyer only pan out for a few years, they have done our Cubs a great service in sabering off dead weight.

There was really no point to keeping Zambrano anyway if they could trade him for something. Z had little trade value and nobody will pony up more than the minimum $12MM or so arbitration salary to net the Cubs a draft pick after the season.

Zambrano's looked pretty good so far this year. Control hasn't been impeccable, but what can you expect from a guy who'd routinely walk 100 guys per year? Hopefully he can play himself into a good situation for free agency. Somebody will give him a multi-year deal. Good for him. Too bad he couldn't continue his career in Chicago.
