Slowed bat and conditioning issues probably meant he was never going to reclaim any trade value this year. This is the final nail in that coffin.

I'm curious if the timing with Woods retirement is related. I don't believe the cubs have another catcher on the 40 man roster. So this move opens another 40 man roster spot to bring up a true backup until Clevenger is healthy.
