Every time you don't have a sure-fire guy like a Strasburg or Harper it's a "weak" crop. Looks like the Cubs are going to play themselves out of the #1 pick so hopefully they stay in the top 3 to at least get more money to spend. If Appel gets hurt I'm going to be disappointed for him but I'll still be amused at the karma.
Actually I wouldn't say that. The draft last year was actually a pretty strong draft and didn't include a sure-fire guy like Strasburg or Harper, but most experts say there were 7 guys that could have gone first overall that year. This year and the coming year are pretty weak crops according to the experts. When it is all said and done though they could be right or they could be wrong.

Even in weak years there are players that can help an organization. The Cubs just have to do their best to shift the odds of being right slightly more in their favor, and for once I feel confident in the people pulling the trigger to do that.
