Default OT: Which MLB Franchise Has Been The Most Successful Over The Last 20 Years?

Which MLB franchise has been able to sustain success and maintain it the most over the last 20 years? I'm not talking just World Series Championships, but consistent winning, playoff contention and well-managed, talented teams. How did they not only reach the plateau but maintain it throughout?

Thought this would be a good discussion to have.

I was going to say the Braves and the Yankees. Tons of playoff appearances between the two. Decent farm systems always continuing to pump talent into the majors. Having HOF players and managers certainly helped.

Those are definitely the first two that come to mind. I'd include the Cardinals if we were just talking about the last decade and the Red Sox as well, but they weren't on the Yankees/Braves level in the 90s.

Atlanta winning 14 division titles in a row was extremely impressive. I started watching baseball around the mid-90s and remember watching them when they were broadcast nationally on TBS. They, along with the Cubs, were the two teams I grew up watching and that's how I came to love baseball.

The Cubs need to be more like those Braves if they want a chance to win the big one. Get in, and anything could happen.

Definitely. Just hope for more success than the Braves in the postseason. 1 World Series title in 14 playoff appearances in a row just proves how difficult it is to win the Series and shows how anything can happen in the postseason. If the Cubs can get 1, hopefully that can start a streak. Wishful thinking.

Tough to say anyone but the Yankees.

After that you're looking at the Braves and Cardinals IMO.

Pfft, anyone can play Yankee and write checks all day.

I have to give props to the Marlins...2 titles and they didn't have to spend a dime for FA's.

2 titles without a division title, pretty remarkable in that it is odd. And this is for a team only playing their 20th season in franchise history now.

Their model seems a bit parasitic...suck up revenue sharing funds for a while, keep tanking to get good draft picks to get a good farm, then contend. Then fire sale. That's why they don't make the playoffs that often is because they keep doing the reload plan.

That is simply not true. The 97 Marlins had the seventh highest payroll in baseball. They signed via free agency Bobby Bonilla, Moises Alou, devon White, Kevin Brown, Alex Fernadez, Al Leiter etc. They then traded them for the prospects that helped form the core of the 03 team combined with high draft picks from sucking in the years between titles. That also ignores the free agent acquistion of Ivan Rodriguez to the 03 team as well.

I looked up the particulars, e.g. 7th highest payroll and each particular free agent acquisition. But I thought it was pretty common knowledge that the Marlins bought the '97 team, and then sold off the pieces when the owner didn't get his way on a stadium deal. And is there something wrong with actually doing research to support one's argument?

This type of intelligence is frowned upon here.

Just look at Sunbiz's typical postings.
