Where are you signing? Same team or other team?
Let's say you are the 7th-9th man on a team, and in your personal situation, you would have a hard time getting market value on your next contract, unless you do what most players do at some point. Pad your stats.
But you are on a team that is close to contending for a title, maybe even a contender, but your performances put your team over the top.
You'll get 18mpg. How do you handle the dilemma?
Scenario A.
You would average 11ppg, 4ast, 4reb, 1.6 combined block+steal, with a PER of 17. Your average +/- would be +1, winshare would be 1.1 Your team makes it to the semis. At the end of the season you are re-signed for 3x the league minimum.
Scenario B.
If you played the role of intangibles, you would score 6.2ppg, 2ast, 2reb, and 1.4 combined block+steal, with a PER of 13. Your average +/- would be +5, winshare would be 3.8. Your team makes it to the CF. At the end of the season you are re-signed for the league minimum.
In both scenarios, all of your family problems are covered. All personal stuff is outside of the hypothetical.

Easy one. A!
i'd go with A as well
Really? I would easily pick B. Hoping a few more teammates step it up.
Of course, at the time that you would need to make this decision, you would never know the outcomes either.
better stats, more money, your team still does well(i mean the other team goes a little farther, but if the B hypothetical had their team going to the finals i might have re-considered)
I'm curious as to how getting better stats results in you advancing less than if you "played the role of intangibles" or whatever. If your performance is what could put the team over the top, why wouldn't better stats help your team win?

Its not really that close...a vast majority of the players in the league would take A. Its guaranteed money...and you are, according to PER, an above average player. The first option is the obvious option here.
I'd tend to agree with Hou here.

Let me change it a bit. You would have no way of knowing where you end up, but you have a feeling that you wouldn't make much more money, without having the stats to back it up.
I don´t care about the money. As a player I want to help my team and A is a better player!
Of course it's confusing. How would you know what is going to happen, before it happens? In a hypothetical, the outcomes can be laid out, but in reality, you wouldn't know.
I am talking about to get the results they have for the season going into FA. Did they produce those numbers while playing 18 minutes? If they did...then its definitely player A. Nothing pays more than scoring...
And no matter how much money a person has...a vast majority of players in the league would want to get paid.
Then that is fair. It's an opinion poll of what each person here would do.
There is no right answer. There could be a popular answer, but not a right one.
It's always going to be option A for pretty much every player, BUT, I think the scenario is a bit flawed. If you play like option B, then YOUR team should realize your value beyond the stats so it could bolster your FA negotiations & the difference in money could be negligible at that point. FA across the board though, the scorer is always going to be paid more.
But regardless I would probably choose A. Until the world stops running on money, I'll continue to try & get enough of it to keep my family & myself comfortable.
If you can average 11ppg, 4ast, 4reb, 1.6 combined block+steal in 18 minutes then you deserve for sure starter money and starter playing time. Definitely the A and sign in a other team where you can play as a starter.
