You just wait for him to be released so Pittsburgh sucks up the bulk of the salary and Cubs pay for the prorated league minimum. Then you're basically paying him the same amount as you would've paid Campana anyway. I doubt they acquire McLouth though because there's just too much OF clutter.

I think Rice has it as usual, but I guess I could see the Cubs taking a chance since this would be a no risk chance to add talent to the roster.
