WLS 890AMMayor Rahm Emanuel met privately Thursday with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to pitch Chicago and Soldier Field as the site for a future, outdoor Super Bowl, the Sun-Times is reporting.
The NFL is scheduled to hold its first outdoor Super Bowl in a cold weather city — New York — in 2014.
Goodell told the mayor that, if all goes well in New York, he would consider holding the game at Soldier Field.
Emanuel said he is willing to wait, but noted that after Chicago successfully hosted world leaders at the recent NATO Summit, it deserves to be the stage for the NFL's biggest showcase.
Houston is also trying to get in on the bid for the 2017 Super Bowl.
This will obviously all depend on how NJ/NY goes in 2014.

Let's see...Chicago in February...single digit temps, sub-zero wind chills, & the wind whipping off the lake...sounds like every football player's Super Bowl dream![]()
Need to add at least 10k seats for SB

I was watching the news last night and a woman said that she doesn't think Chicago needs the Superbowl here because the city needs a break. When they asked her what she meant, she said, "Because of the whole NATO thing."

I'd understand if you don't believe him, but Goodell did say at his press conference that capacity wasn't an issue. Having the facilities to accommodate the insane amount of events the Super Bowl brings is more important.
Chicago can definitely handle that part.
I'll bet the ticket revenue from the Super Bowl isn't the big money maker for the NFL during those two weeks. Capacity could be an over-exaggerated issue, imo.

Perhaps. I'm just venting that the bears built the tiniest stadium in football having at worst the fifth best fan base

I hope that it doesn't happen TBH. Ever since Soldier Field has been renovated, I'm all game for the Bears getting a new, state of the art stadium, and leaving the Spaceship to the park district and all of the other teams that play in small stadiums. If we get the Suberbowl out of pure pitty, then we'll never get a new stadium.
100k capacity retractable. Time, nao!
Too small a stadium
Too ugly of a stadium
Too cold for the dumb rich tourists that pay outrageous tic prices, nobody wants to even go to NY in Feb. let alone here.
"There is nothing new under the sun".
Well, to be honest, if the winter, like we had this past season, happens in 2017, it'd actually pretty good! I didnt see much snow this year. But the world is supposedly ending in November so its a moot point! *smh & rolls eyes*
THAT, right there, is the only thing I'd be worried about! The field SUCKS ASS during the cold months and the park district does a half assed job at keeping it up! If we got turf at some point between now and then, then I would say it'd be a definite possibility, considering how the NY/NJ one goes over, of course!
*smh* @ the girl with the NATO comment in the above post! "For real, lady?"
