Idk but a goalie who can move post to post quickly and can stay in position is an immediate upgrade to crawford moving like a snail and flopping around out of the crease

In the first round, though?

Edit: I'd be stunned if he wasn't there when the Hawks pick - 18.

I don't disagree with you that it is a need, but could that need be filled via other means?

I mean I guess you could sign some guys, but they would be free agents for a reason.

It seems that our system is stacked full of good forwards and defense..it is time to build our goaltending through the draft IMO

If it gets us a good defenseman or a 2nd line center im down with it

We'd all like to see it built somehow, but I'm not sold on drafting a tender at 18. Might also be able to poach from a team with an abundance of tender depth.

Here's a look at a bunch of current tenders' draft position:

Quick - 3rd rounder
TT - undrafted
Lundqvist - 7th rounder
Rinne - 8th rounder
Miller - 5th rounder
Price - 1st rounder (5th OA)
Loungo - 1st rounder (4th OA)
Flower - 1st rounder (1st OA)
Ward - 1st rounder (25th OA)
Bryz - 2nd rounder
Kipper - 5th rounder
Brodeur - 1st rounder (20th OA)
Backstrom - undrafted
Hiller - undrafted
Halak - undrafted
Lehtonin - 1st rounder (2nd OA)
Howard - 2nd rounder
Pavelec - 2nd rounder
Mason - 3rd rounder

Like everywhere, right?

Everything I've read about goalie prospects past, present, and future tells me that there's no position harder to judge than this one. So many variables that it's damn near impossible to project.

It is really boom or bust.

Obviously you have the best chances to draft that future guy in the first round compared to the second and so on.

I'd be fine with taking a stab at a goaltender with the 18th overall pick.

I guess I see your point, but why draft another top 6 projected forward or a top pairing defenseman when those positions will be filled for years to come...there is a huge hole in goal...

Unless the Hawks see a can't-miss prospect available at number 18 (and if he was a can't-miss, why would he be there at 18?), then I'd think you have to fill a need. And the Hawks biggest need, for prospects, is in net.

Yeah, I don't know if this is the draft that you stretch to make a questionable pick homerun or bust.

Everything I've read about this draft is that the depth is there, just not necessarily the top end talent.

I have no idea about the credibility of this person, but here's an interesting tweet from @hockeyyinsiderr yesterday:

Just before I go, there are legs to Hjalmarsson to #Sens rumors. Confirmed by source close to #Blackhawks . More to come tomorrow.

And according to some other Hawks fans on Twitter, the alleged return is Zack Smith and a pick.

I don't have much to back up this rumor, though, so ... grain of salt, and all that.

Some extra reading on Zack Smith:
Zack Smith NHL Statistics | Hockey-Reference.com

[Edit] Being told by a lot of people that this source isn't any good. So, there's that.

Well here's a move

Report: Blackhawks release goalie prospect Alexander Salak
Less than two months after Stan Bowman made a point of praising the man who passed him on the depth chart, the Blackhawks reportedly are set to cut ties with minor-league goalie Alexander Salak.

The CBC reported Friday the Hawks have placed Salak on waivers.
