Goldstein on 670 just now talked about the Sox and trade situation:
*Said despite the crappy rating that they have pieces other teams might be interested in like Jared Mitchell and Trayce Thompson that have plus tools.
*Can make deals with teams that value quantity over quality
*Doubt they could make a play for Hamels specifically but seemed to include Greinke despite the questions about him because they lacked that stud prospect that those teams would want in return for the player. Though neither may hit the market, specifically Hamels that is getting a pretty strong push to resign.
*As most know, the odds of the White Sox getting Dempster is pretty long since many of the NL teams in play match up better for what the Cubs want

Thanks for the report, Dabs.

I hope we don't get Dempster for reasons I mentioned in the Dempster thread.

Just get a starter and a solid-enough vet arm in the pen, plz.

Yeah. I'm not a 100% on dempster anyway. Pitching well, but hasn't faced AL bats.

His 3 starts against the AL this season he has a sub 2 ERA, but it isn't something that is likely to come into play either way. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the market plays out.

I would definitely trade Trayce Thompson in a package for Grienke. He strikes out a lot, a ton in fact, but if he ever learns any plate discipline look out!

I think you would have a tough time getting the Brewers to accept him as the centerpiece of a deal. Generally rule of thumb if you would make a deal without thinking the other side probably wouldn't.

same could be said with the other way around with other teams in the city.

dempster is a no go so we gotta let go of that. as far as him in the AL his sub 2 in 3 games is a sample size but either way he would be a good addition for the sox, but since his numbers are out of this world theo is looking for the top flight pitching specs. could the sox put a deal together? sure. but KW isnt going for a rental when it comes to pitching.

what i want is someone better than millwood. thats all.

I don't think that happens. Given what we have (I know, I know its what teams look for, not quality) but Milwood seems the most realistic.

Very true. With Kenny, there's always a chance you end up with something extravagant out of nowhere (Freddy Trade, Peavy Trade), for nothing.

Blum is alright. Not sure that the difference would be that big of a deal. Other than fans being all gushy over a WS champ coming back.
