The teams that just have mediocre running backs are great because of everything else. Add a guy like Forte to say GB, and they are the best team in the league by far. When you have a special talent like Forte, lock him up. I agree that 5 years is too much, but as far as the money goes, he deserves 8 mil a year and probably close to 20 mil guaranteed. Thats less than DeAngelo Williams, and Forte is MUCH better obviously. If an overpaid Williams is makes more than Forte, it just won't seem right.
I disagree with the GB thing simply because of the fact they are a pass oriented team and I'm saying just give me 1 team with the supposed elite back. Intangibles IMHO are overrated, give me the guy that is successful and has the tangibles because tangibles can be seen and used and touched and felt, etc (meaning they're physical not just perceived).

Forte is very good, don't get me wrong but nothing, absolutely nothing about him is really all that special.....except for maybe his vision. Special=MJD, AP, Foster, hell even Rice and McCoy could be considered special and if CJ gets his head right again he sure as hell is special, Forte on the other hand is just a very good running back and deserves to be paid as such.

As far as williams goes, it's our fault that Carolina gave him a stupid contract? Why should the bears do the same, if they can get him for the right contract and not overpay for a guy who's numbers are going to go down with the outside weapons, and new OC (Bush is more of a Tice RB, Forte was a perfect Martz back) along with his workload.

I'm all for him getting his paper, but pay him as a very good back, not elite. Hell Marshawn is the deal I'd like to see him get but won't happen, but the deal he's actually worth in my mind in terms of total and guaranteed money is Jamaal Charles, just not the years.

I wouldn't be upset with some type of contract that is mostly bonuses and whatnot especially later in the contract. Don't want a ton of guaranteed money because running backs are so expendable.

And while I admit that Forte is one of the better backs in the league, he's not the best. Giving him a ton of guaranteed money could easily come back and bite the Bears in the ass. As much as Forte refuses to admit it, running backs get injured and he's already suffered from injuries.

    Yep. From Sean Jensen:
BREAKING: #Bears agree to terms with Pro Bowl RB Matt Forte on a long-term contract, according to source close to the situation.

I just hope they don't blow their wad with the amount of $$ they gave him! We have Urlacher and Cutler to think about next year and the year after!

4 years with an average salary of 8 million. Guaranteed money is always the key and will be interesting to see how much is there.

    More from Sean Jensen:

Important to note: The last couple running back contracts (namely LeSean McCoy and Arian Foster) were five-year deals. With Matt Forte finalizing a four-year deal, his guaranteed money probably will be less than them. Foster and McCoy received $20.7 million in guarantees.
