Default Marco Belinelli to the Bulls?

    Alex Kennedy ‏@AlexKennedyNBA
It sounds like Marco Belinelli and the Chicago Bulls are in advanced talks. Nothing imminent, but he may sign for the bi-annual exception.
    meh

I actually like Belinelli. He'd be a good replacement for Korver.

Like you said, meh. But Its better than nothing and not only is it better than Redd, but also just about every other name floating around lately.

Just pop the champagne bottles that it's not Pargo, Mcgrady, or whatever other useless Atlanta reject PaxGar seems to be interested in.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Let all the other teams grab to good players, we just take the scraps off the table.

This has been the hardest off-season that I've been through as a Bulls fan.

I've been trying not to post about it, but it's just, wow.

Nothing? We got nothing this off-season. I figured that either Lucas, Watson & Brewer would be gone and possibly all of them. I figured they would re-sign Korver to less money after not picking up his option. I thought they would shop and successfully move Deng and/or Noah's contracts and possibly Boozer's contract.

What I didn't expect was to see the Bulls stand in the dugout and watch while letting Lucas, Watson, Korver and Brewer go for nothing. Replacing them with Radmanovic, Teague, Hinrich, and Butler. This is just not making sense to me.

Why in the world would you ever think that was going to happen? None of those contracts will be moved til they have less years on them. No one wants those contracts right now.

Two words: Luxury Tax. That is the driving force behind every move this offseason. There's absolutely no reason to pay the tax while Rose is in a suit for 3/4 of the season. It's not like the FO didn't try to find trades for all those players. Korver was the only player that any team wanted in a trade & we got an exception out of it which is a GOOD THING. Teague & Butler are future role players who need to really get their feet wet & this season is the perfect time to do so. Kirk was brought in for stability at the point & in the locker room.

There's reasons for these moves. Most people may think they are dumb but they need to understand the logic behind them.

Belinelli is atrocious defensively. But as long as he's a backup SG I'm fine w/ the move. Really hope the Bulls sign Delonte West or Randy Foye.

Delonte is who I'm really hoping for at this point along with possibly Birdman if he clears wavers. CDR also interests me a lot also as he was Rose's backcourt mate. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Either one of those guys would be solid, but I think once Belinelli is signed, if he is signed, that may be it for guards. Patrick Beverley, "The Derrick Rose of Euroleague" , will likely be in training camp to take over the Turd's former role on the team.

I think people need to get their minds around the fact that we're not going to be contenders for the next 2-3 years. Imo, we're treading water until 2014 where some big contracts come off the books and we can once again gamble in free agency (and my guess is they'll fail miserably, but let's try to be positive). Let's face it...we're not beating Miami for the next 2 years at least. Having Ray Allen is going to help them a lot and Rashard Lewis isn't a bad pickup for them either. Now they'll actually have more than a halfway decent bench next to their big 3 (assuming they don't do something like put Wade at PG and start Allen). We've already started to see that this group was never going to have a strong chance to beat the Heat...we might've had a fighter's chance, which is nice, but it was never something like 50/50 chance.

Add on the fact that you have Brooklyn buying talent like crazy and the Lakers adding Nash and possibly Dwight Howard (though the reports are all over the place, so who knows what's happening there)...we're in trouble even if we did somehow get past the Heat (or the Nets). Plus there's still the Knicks, Indiana, and OKC who'd all give the Bulls an issue in one way or another.

We know ownership is cheap is is not willing to pay the tax (though shockingly enough, we're a tax paying team at the moment by the slimmest of margins). Frankly, I don't see who we could add that would push us over the top. Lee would be a nice piece, Mayo would be a nice piece, but neither are the answer. Our only hope of ever finding the answer immediately was to trade Deng or Noah (or both) for Dwight Howard, but that was never even considered because Dwight (like everyone else in the world it seems) doesn't want to play here. And frankly...I can see why the FO is like "why pay the tax for a team who's not going to win anyway." especially considering the owner we have to deal with.

Bulls basketball is still going to be watchable for the next few years...we're still going to be a playoff team, though maybe not a 1 seed again, but we're not going to be contenders. We'll still be perhaps a dark horse if our guys have a good season, but obviously we're downgrading in overall talent, so I don't see that going very far.

Long story short, who we get/don't get now...it doesn't matter. We're not going to beat the Heat, we probably can't beat OKC, Lakers, or any other serious contending team this year for sure, and probably not next year as well. Our core isn't good enough. Signing Courtney Lee or whoever else doesn't change that...in fact, it just creates more of the same problem: Derrick Rose and a bunch of nice role players instead of Derrick Rose and another star and a few nice role players.

You would do well to read Sam Smith's mailbag today and understand why the first two won't be signed. Several of the questions are the same thing people post here and I guess people who think that way won't care to read someone as experienced as Sam tell them what they want to do isn't going to happen.

Douglas Roberts is someone I don't understand why he isn't signed or hasn't been ale to get minutes with some team. He looked like he could play but somehow he doesn't get much of a chance.

Everything this season is waiting for Derrick to recover and there's no sense spending into the tax for players this year when he won't be back until some time in 2013. Let the dozen or more teams who are spending their money and will be trying to shed salary in two years to rebuild. The Bulls and mavericks will be in the driver's seat with a couple of solid players and improving young players in place, an amnesty guy, with room to sign a big star.

I honestly don't get fans who are so impatient. After the championship run the rebuilding was awful and the team was worse and until Pax and Gar came along this was fast becoming the 80's- 00's Clippers on Madison. They have fielded a competitive team then a contending team and if it takes a year of going back to competitive waiting on Rose before getting back to contending, so be it.

He was picked in the top 10 when he was drafted so clearly the potential is there, maybe all ne needs is a fresh start!

He isn't bad news or anything. He's solid. Not someone who plays our style of basketball, but we need to diversify our skills here, this team has stagnated with certain areas of offensive development. I think signing Belinelli for the BAE is a SERIOUS score.

We can bitch about not signing the big name players. But we shouldn't bitch about this, Butler, or Teague. So I'm happy about this move. It's solid.

Which is why we have an outside shot of having him on the team for a season or two.
