Polley Named Crusaders Head Coach!

ryan01.jpg

"It's exciting" said Justin Polley of his new job. Justin Polley, now the youngest coach in the NCAA has many loyal alumni of the school are already questioning his ability to right the ship for the Crusaders. But that isn't all of it, the alumni here at Holy Cross are also questioning his arrogance. "No matter what any alumni here thinks, I am the right man for the job. Once I bring a National Championship to this University, everyone who doubted me and my top of the line coaching staff will be praising me as the greatest coach of all time." Not only did he leave a bad first impression on the alumni, he also took a shot at the Athletic Department."It may take a little while to win the National Title due to the extremely small budget my coaching staff and I were given, but we will get there." said Polley of the budget the school had given him to go out and recruit. When asked about the style of play he coaches and how he will use this season's roster, he replied "I like to play an up-temp game. Getting out on the break for lay-ups and threes on the wing is what we will be looking for. So in recruiting, we will obviously be looking for a speedy Point, good three ball shooters and some big men who can run the floor. This upcoming season, with the players we have we will be looking to pound the rock inside when we are in the half-court and get to the line on the break." Polley closed up his opening announcement with this statement, "The time is now! If you support us as much as possible by coming to games, I promise you we will reward you all with a National Title.

Keister Going Hard

Andrew Keister, a 6'9/235lb PF is already in the discussion for the Patriot League Player of the Year Award, but realistically what are the chances he can win this award? "Andrew is without a doubt the best player in the conference, barring an injury I don't see how Andrew will not win the Patriot League Player of the Year Award and lead this team to the conference championship." said first year head coach Justin Polley. Keister also gave us an answer after the team's practice. "My goals for this season is to win the conference and make the NCAA tournament. I don't care if I win the player of the year award or finish dead last in the votings, just as long as I can help this team succeed."

Season Opener Nearing!

With the season opener nearing against Harvard the athletic department reports the stadium will be near full capacity as most of the tickets have been sold for the home opener. The Athletic Director had this to say, "Justin has the fans real up-beat and energized for the new season by his interviews, our first couple of home games have sold large amounts of tickets. Obviously Coach Polley keeping his word on the season will help keep ticket sales up and the fans energized."

Crusaders Win Season Opener!

In one of the most energetic games this building has seen in a couple of seasons, Holy Cross came out on top, and big. Right from the opening tip the Crusaders were pushing the ball and it obviously made Harvard very uncomfortable in their half-court style of play. The Crusaders jumped out to a 19-7 lead and were in cruise control from that point on. During the game Harvard got out of their half-court offense and tried to play up-tempo with Holy Cross but it was to no avail. Holy Cross took a 45-30 lead into the half and continued to roll as everyone got big minutes tonight. The final score was 84-66 as Andrew Keister had a huge stat line of 22 points and 11 boards. Andrew Beinert hit 5 threes and finished with 19 points, R.J Evans also finished with 19.

Holy Cross Now 2-0!

On a rainy day here, the basketball team made it a bit less gloomy with a win over St. Joseph's. Coach Polley had this to say after the game, "We really grinded this one out. It was a tough environment but we kept fighting and came out with the win. Our defense down the stretch allowed us to win this game." Holy Cross trailed 64-63 with 3 minutes left in the ball game, but kept the Hawks right where they were the rest of the way going on an 13-0 run to push the teams record to a 2-0 start.

Andrew Keister: 15 points/ 7 rebounds
Eric Meister: 12 points/ 16 rebounds
R.J Evans: 22 points
Andrew Beinert: 11 points

Those 4 players lead the way in the scoring department, if R.J Evans keeps this up, he will be sitting pretty in a spot for conference POY.

Oh My Oh My!

Coach Polley pulled in three huge commitments for next seasons roster. Justin Mason, a 7'0 PF, Wolfgang Wolverton, a 6'10 PF and John Haley a 6'3 SG. Mason and Wolverton are both three-star prospects, Haley is a two-star. Wolverton looks to be the big prize in this recruiting class though, the 6'10 PF is ranked as the nations 147th over-all player.
