Along with what Rory said about him being moved around a lot so he wouldn't have to take on as many blocks. Shea's greatest attribute as a pass rusher right now is that Julius Peppers is on the same D-line as him. He will get those one-on-one's, and will get those stunt plays so that his speed can be used to rush the passer. Wait and see, because he probably won't play a lot with Peppers in the preseason, and so he won't look as good, but during the regular season it will benefit him so much to have Peppers on the D-line with him. I think that is what he has going for him right now.

I'd think that Idonije would still be opposite Peppers when the regular season starts. McClellin isn't going to be playing opposite Peppers unless he actually proves that he can do that. I'm not going to judge yet, but just by being the first rounder he won't be guaranteed a spot.

we just got to give all these kids a chance. Not all draft picks are gonna be instant hits on the first day of practice.

Fingers crossed the "Woot there it is" can stay healthy for a change. Physically he seems like a guy who could spell Peppers for a snap or 2.

Im not saying he will be starting, Im saying in the situations where McClellin is on the field, he will benefit greatly from Peppers being on the D-line with him.

Dude is a rookie playing a position he has never played before... give him time.

That said, I'm curious for other's opinions on this: When his career is over years down the line, is Shea going to be remembered as a DE or a LBer?

    Oh. Then I agree.

As far as the LB or DE discussion, I would be happy either way but since the Bears seem so adamant about him being a DE that's probably where he's going to end up.

Especially if Marinelli is around for years to come, he will make McClellin his project.

Guys stop worrying about McClellin...he will be fine. He has too much talent to not make any plays. The guy is just good at football. He'll do fine.

He's just learning how to be a pro doing what he's doing.

Obviously he's going to get better everyday. He's playing a position he didn't play 100% in college in the NFL now. He's going to learn more and more each day and get better.

He's got great speed, so if he gets stronger and gets more reps he can be a very successful DE. The biggest problem right now is against the run.

Ok, we're well into the third quarter and the more I watch this kid, the more I'm seeing Lovie and Company trying once again to build a better mouse trap. This kid has linebacker written all over him....speed, strength and good angles to the ball. I keep seeing a linebacker playing DE. He's just not big enough. You can't beat NFL lineman
with only speed rushes and with his lack of size, thats all he's ever gonna have.

Lack of size which is the same size of Alex Brown.. and minimally less than Adewale... They knocked Alex Browns ability on the run and abillity to be a full down player when he was coming out as well. If he can keep up his effort driving to do all he can, he can be a fine player all around and quick to boot. It's still an if, but he does need a counter speed move to really show flashes on starters.

Besides you must of missed plays to only see speed rushes, there has been some spins/bull rush attacks by McClellin as well.

He was getting beat up against the run but he did a great job rushing the passer. I could see him being successful this year in a 3rd down pass rusher role ala Aldon Smith last season
