After 106 games, Cubs are 43-63, still 22 games back of the Reds and losing ground on the wild cards as well. With 56 games left, they need 27 to get to 70 wins. Probably won't happen and since the Astros and Rockies suck so much and the teams slightly better than the Cubs are prone to losing, definitely better to just lose out than to go on a mega-win streak

Naturally the players will play their best, but 70 wins is probably going to be a minor miracle if it happens.

As long as we don't finish with a record worse than the team that put up the worst since I've been a fan ('98). And that would be the 2000 team at 65-97.

I'm holding out some slim hope that Casey Coleman can't fill in Tuesday, and that Brooks Raley will get the Tuesday start. I believe it is Raley's turn in Iowa's rotation Tuesday.

Coleman pitched yesterday. So the odds of him being able to go is very low. Brooks Raley might actually get the call.

Sounds about right, because he's better than Rusin so far and his spot should be coming up on Tuesday.

That would require a 22-34 record from here on. Don't hold your breath.

.400 ball might not be so difficult. I doubt they'll be able to do much better than that though.

With Garza going to the DL... leaving the "1-2" of the staff as Samardzija and Wood.... yeah, I think .400 ball for the rest of the season might be unreachable. I'd be surprised if this team doesn't lose 100 games.

Then again, they do play 22 of the remaining games against the Padres (3 games), Astros (6 games), Rockies (6 games), and Brewers (7 games). So... maybe there's an outside hope of a #1 pick after all? Maybe an outside hope of 70 wins? Too bad the rest of the remaining games are primarily against divisional leaders.
