Castro Extended to 7 year, $60M deal

Got it via text message from ESPN, source is ESPNdeportesLosAngeles.com apparently

I just wanted to be able to say a Sox fan reported it first here, only thing that MIGHT and I say might frustrate Rice :D

Lil bit of both.

good to see him extended, but that seems a bit too much...IMO

Not really too much. You buy out his four years of arbitration and three years of free agency.

It actually breaks down to just under $8.58M per year average.

I think it's fair, for what the guy will mean to the team, he can be a franchise player, and how many franchise player shorstops do you come across? Tulo, Jeter.... maybe Rollins in his prime but that's a stretch

I'm very happy with this deal. He's gonna get better and aside from unpredictable injury, I just don't see any way this will wind up a bad contract.

Option is for 16 million I guess... so 76 million total
