Carimi OK with pressure of high expectations

Chicago Bears right tackle Gabe Carimi knows he’s about to encounter increased scrutiny, and he doesn’t seem too concerned about it.
Carimi realizes he’s the last first-round draft pick remaining from the Jerry Angelo Era after the Bears released Chris Williams. Three of those first-rounders -- Cedric Benson (Packers), Greg Olsen (Panthers), and Rex Grossman (Redskins) -- now play for other teams.
"There is added pressure on a first-round pick," Carimi said. "I just don’t pay much attention to it. If I keep on working hard and playing with the same intensity that I’ve always played with, people will see enough good in me. And then I’ll just keep on playing well."
Carimi and Williams joined the Bears under similar circumstances. Williams, the 14th overall pick in 2008, had a back issue coming out of Vanderbilt and had to undergo back surgery prior to his rookie year. His missed the first seven games.
Carimi, the 29th-overall pick in '11, had right knee problems at Wisconsin then suffered a subluxation of the same knee in Week 2 of last season. He missed the rest of his rookie campaign following the injury.
Carimi has not missed a game this season.
"Do I feel pressure? No. I think I’ll do my thing," Carimi said. "I feel like I’m picking up speed as the season has gone along. And I think, barring any injuries, that I’m just going to keep on improving."
Some thought Carimi took a step back the last time out during the Bears’ 41-3 win over the Jaguars. He was whistled for three penalties -- including consecutive false starts -- and surrendered a sack.
"That’s the life of an o-linemen," Carimi said of the criticism. "There are other positions where you could get two sacks, you could have been blown up the whole game but if you get two sacks, you’re a hero. I can't do anything like that, really, to make up for what I did.
"Next week, I’ll just do the same thing I’ve done, without those four bad plays. And I’ll ball. I’ll play well."
Carimi said his repaired knee is no longer an issue.
"It feels great," he said. "I don’t think about it when I’m playing."
That ability to focus on the task at hand figures to help Carimi handle the scrutiny coming his way.

Let's this be an example to you Carimi, Emery will can your ass just like he did Williams.

I think Carimi gon be just fine over the long haul.
And shit, even with his probs in pass blocking, he has been solid in run blocking. I contest that he has been a disaster out there!
Not to sure on this guy, good run blocker but looks to struggle mightily against pass rushers.
Carimi really hasn't been able to get much NFL experience under his belt and who knows when he's 100% if ever. I'm willing to take a wait and see approach here.
I'm not ready to crown him as Chris Williams 2.0, but I'm not ready not to crown him either. Pass blocking is important.
(And reading is fun - damental.)
Some of these smileys are too much fun.

OH SHIT
Just noticed "Semite-Truck"
LMFAO did you come up with that Ole?
yeah, he was soliciting nicknames on twitter after he got drafted but he chose "Bear Jew" over mine![]()
Well, semite truck is a mouth full. But its way more funny.
Semite-Truck has much more flair. I'd have to question the Bear Jew's thinking there.
I'm just saying, Carimi is one of Angelo's picks, not Emery's...
Via Jeff Dickerson on Waddle and Silvy, Carimi is the #1 run-blocking RT.

He needs to get better pass-blocking...simple. I'll give him time though, he's still pretty much a rookie. Don't end up like CW though.
This stuck out to me as incredibly wrong. Angelo drafted Williams who had to have surgery before he played a single down. Angelo later admitted that they knew he was hurt when they drafted him. Carimi was healthy when drafted and suffered an injury in a game. These are not similar circumstances.
JD also said he rated as one of the worst pass blockers. Run blocking is not the issue. His getting Cutler killed is. In 349 snaps, JWebb has committed 2 penalties, and given up 3 sacks, 1 QB hurrie and 8 QB hits. In the same number of snaps Carimi has comitted 7 penalties, and given up 3 sacks, 4 hurries, and 17 QB hits.
He is young and I expect him to get better but the dude sacks pass blocking right now.
you sure about those numbers? I thought carimi gave up 5 QB hurries in the packer game alone?
