I flippin' love the work you put into these things man. Srsly.

But, on the fo'real, can we give everyone back-loaded contracts? I mean, I understand the philosophy behind it -- but...idk..

Yes we can.

Because of the age of the Bears when Vollmer and Melton's contracts become big they will be replacing Peppers, Tillman and Briggs who will not be on the team 3 years from now.

Now you say but we have to replace those guys and I say now that Angelo is gone cheaper draft picks will be replacing people instead of free agents.

The Angelo era of missed draft picks really screwed up how we fans looked at economics.

I know it's early, fellas, but whenever you feel like throwing a mock draft up, we'll add it to the 2nd post. Monk has volunteered his time to help me keep this up-to-date...and we'll try to keep all the draft talk in here.

WR is a need too. should be top 2 things addressed

I strongly disagree. I wouldn't mind a burner late but not top 2 by any means.

We have always said that we cannot backload a young players contract because we would have to replace missed picks with free agents.

But Melton will be here for teh full 5 years and he will essentially become Peanut Tillman in terms of contract number on the books.

I do not think people realize just how bad Angelo let things get.

They will not be taking one I bet until the 5th or 6th round, we do have other needs.

well "they" are the same people who said our o-line is fine. just cause "they" aren't addressing it or don't address it don't mean its not a top need.

we have no one on WR beside marshall and jeffery (when he is healthy, which is rare)

This is a big board for the Bears based on a combination of their needs and positional value. Some players will not be included as they will more than likely not be drafted by the Bears or they have no need.

Positions like RB, S, DL and WR are not prominently featured because of reduced need.

1. LB Manti Te'o [Notre Dame]

2. OT Luke Joekyl [Texas A&M]

3. OG Jonathan Cooper [UNC]

4. OG Chance Warmack [Alabama]

5. OT Jake Matthews [Texas A&M]

6. OT Taylor Lewan [Michigan]

7. TE Tyler Eifert [Notre Dame]

8. OT Eric Fisher [Central Michigan]

9. LB Alec Ogeltree [Georgia]

10. CB Jonathan Banks [Mississippi State]

11. OT Lane Johnson [OU]

12. LB Khaseem Greene [Rutgers]

13. OT/OG Dallas Thomas [Tennessee]

14. CB Xavier Rhodes [Florida St]

15. LB Kevin Minter [LSU]

16. WR Justin Hunter [Tennessee]

17. DE Ezekial Ansah [BYU]

18. TE Zach Ertz [Stanford]

19. C Barrett Jones [Alabama]

20. CB DeMarcus Millner [Alabama]

21. DE Sam Montgomery [LSU]

22. OT/OG D.J Fluker [Alabama]

23. LB Arthur Brown [Kansas St]

24. LB C.J Mosley [Alabama]

25. OT Justin Pugh [Syracuse]

26. LB Shave Skov [Stanford]

27. OG Larry Warford [Kentucky]

28. OT Oday Aboushi [Virginia]

29. TE Gavin Escobar [San Diego St]

30. TE Joseph Fauria [UCLA]

Hey Guys, awesome thread!

I think one of the bigger questions heading into the draft is what to do with Carimi.... If we believe he has a chance to actually play well at RT then we really only need to lock down the LT and LG spot and one of those could be addressed through free agency.

Windy, I like your list a lot, but no love for Kevin Riddick (ILB), out of North Carolina?

I don't think we're are going to give up on Carimi and I hope he turns out to be a solid RT. IIRC he was one of the can't miss picks in his draft. Not LT matterial but a very good RT. Hope he lives up to that at some point. If so, we've got the right side and the center starters next year. J. Scott seems to give us depth at Tackle if we keep him here. Then you're right LT and LG are our biggest needs on OL.

LG would probably be easiest to get this off season. Not that I don't want Webb replaced, but he did look better when Rachal was playing well beside him. LL and a solid LG would really improve this line more than anything I think.

I'm with you Monk. I would prefer to think that following this offseason and some rehabbing/strength training that Carimi can come around and actually excel at RT. If this is the case it gives us more options for the draft which is great seeing as though we don't have a 3rd round pick.

I know Urlacher is on the way out, but I would love to see him stick around 1 more year so that we can address the position next year when our lines should hopefully be a little more solidified.

Bleacher Report:
1st Round: 29th Pick -- Eric Fisher - OT - Central Michigan

Don't know if you wanted to include Bleacher reports mock draft.

29. Chicago Bears: OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan

The Bears keep rolling along defensively, and there's finally some offensive playmakers available for Jay Cutler. But the one weak link on this football team remains the offensive line. Fisher has a lot of upside and would eventually slot in as the team's franchise left tackle.
