Depends on what they mean by "always on", for me.

If it's always on like a DVR for updating and stuff, I'm fine with that.

If they mean you have to be connected online at all times just to play a game, then I'd be pissed.
Sounds like it's always online. NEOGaf forum post with more twitter posts by the Creative Director

From the Kotaku article, here's the main quote

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

I have never considered switching away from Microsoft and their console.... always figured I would move on to whatever came after the 360.... now I am very unsure of that.... this stuff sounds awful.

Alienating your consumer base aint worth shutting down pirates and game sharing IMO.... I guess after RROD they think their PR is invincible.

Report: Next Xbox reveal due May 21, costs $500, or $300 with a subscription

So there will be an event on the 21st of May to reveal the next console. It'll apparently cost $500 for the normal console, and there will be a subscription based $300 console.

This article also says it'll launch in early November.

But that "always-online" bullshit sounds like it's actually going to happen.

Regarding the console's rumoured "always-online" component, Thurrot reiterated what we knew already - that previous Microsoft design documents have mentioned the feature.

"Looking at some of the stuff I got a long time ago, it actually says 'must be internet-connected to use' in the notes," Thurrot claimed. "And that's all I have, but it does say that."

After the ps3's $499 - $599 price point fiasco, I don't see Sony or Microsoft being dumb enough to launch their system at that price.

If I buy a new system it's probably the PS4 unless it's confirmed the new XBox doesn't always have to be online.

New report says that it won't be always online, and will be 100% backwards compatible. Will also run it's own version of Windows 8.

Rumor: Xbox 720 always online "false", backwards compatible

    Leaning towards PS4 for me.

I only play sports games, GTA, and COD---all available on PS4

Also, I want a good baseball game for gods sakes---advantage PS4 with 'The Show'

Unless Xbox gets 'The Show' or an equally good baseball game on their lineup, im switching to Sony

Arstechnica- Microsoft: Next Xbox will work even when your internet doesn't

Well this will be a breath of fresh air if it's a true rumor. Apparently this was sent in an internal Microsoft employee email:

"Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet. There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game."

    Also from the article:

How far this offline support will extend still isn't clear. It could take the form of a fully offline mode akin to that on the Xbox 360 (insert optical disc, install game, play, all without an Internet connection) or it could be more like Steam (install and activate online but enable subsequent offline play once this has been done).
