So, I posted this on RealGM, but it's a huge post that took me a couple hours so I wanted you guys to see it too:

At the beginning of the season, I chose to track Derrick's game by game statistics. I wanted to see the trends in his game. That work can be found here: http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=853461

Derrick's Season:
(37.0 MPG) 16.8 PPG, 6.3 APG, 3.9 RPG, 2.49 TO, .475 FG%,

Past Guard Rookie Seasons (thanks to Sdeezy)
Tony Parker - (28 mpg) 9.2 PPG, 4.3 APG, 2.6 RPG - 2 TO on 42% FG%
Chris Paul - (36mpg) 16.1 PPG, 7.8 APG, 5.1 RPG - 2.3 TO on 43% FG
Deron Williams - (29mpg) 10.8 PPG, 4.5 APG, 2.4 RPG - 1.8 TO on 42% FG
Dwyane Wade - (35mpg) 16.2 PPG, 4.5 APG, 4.0 RPG - 3.2 TO on 46.5 % FG

Scoring:
Derrick showed everyone he could score with the best point guards in the NBA. The following chart is Derrick's 10 Game Moving PPG Average. 10 Game Moving Averages show the trends of the season.

Derrick started off scoring really well, struggled a little in the middle of the season due to defenses, but ended the year incredibly strong.

Assists:

Derrick's passing slowly but surely improved. He started off pretty slow, learning his teammates, improved, but then faltered due to players getting injured and an ever changing rotation. Eventually, due to the trades, rotation tightening, and improved play by the bigs, Rose saw his assist numbers, and the team's seeding, grow.

Rebounding:

Derrick immediately impressed with his rebounding skills. He proved to be a much better rebounder than we all expected. He started very strong, but faltered a little bit in the middle of the season, but eventually regained his rebounding after he addressed the other facets of his game.

Turnovers:
Derrick struggled a little bit early in the season with turnovers, but it was never really that big of an issue. He handled the ball well and I expect his Assist/Turnover ratio to improve greatly next year.

Ranks:
Points Per Game - #38 in NBA, #8 amongst PGs, #4 amongst East PGs, #2 amongst Rookies
Assists Per Game - #16 in NBA, #14 amongst PGs, #7 amongst East PGs, #1 amongst Rookies
Assist to Turnover Ratio - #22 in NBA, #20 amongst PGs, #9 amongst East PGs, #1 amongst Rookies
Rebounds Per Game - #7 amongst PGs, #4 amongst East PGs, #14 amongst Rookies

Derrick is actually a pretty good mid-range jumpshooter. Check out his numbers at the left elbow, top of the key, and right side.

Summary:
Derrick put up an incredibly consistent rookie season. This is a superb feat for a couple reasons. First, Derrick adjusted to the challenge of being defended as the #1 option. Secondly, Derrick played 81 games this season, which is exactly the amount he played in the last 2 years combined (At Memphis and in High School). He showed few signs of fatigue and continued to lead this team through the ups and downs of a full season.

Next, I'll break down the months.

October/November:
18.4 PPG, 6.0 APG, 4.1 RPG
Derrick burst out of the gate with an amazing start. He immediately showed he could score against any defenders, could rebound better than anyone expected, but his creation for other players left a little to be desired. This, however, was to be expected with a new system, new team, and new league. Nonetheless, he came out looking like the favorite in the ROY race.
Standout Game:
November 30th Win at Philadelphia – 18 Points, 10 Assists, 5 Rebounds, 1 Andre Miller Broken Ankle on 8/15 Shooting

December:
16.3 PPG, 6.2 APG, 3.1 RPG
After the quick start, Derrick slowed it down a bit as teams started to gameplan for him. His PPG diminished a little bit, but he started to be a little more comfortable with the team. Rebounding numbers fell, most likely due to increased fatigue on the offensive end.
Standout Game:
December 29th win vs. New Jersey – 21 Points, 13 Assists, 4 Rebounds on 9/15 Shooting

January:
15.3 PPG, 6.8 APG, 4.0 RPG
Derrick continued to struggle a little bit with his scoring, but not tremendously. Still adjusting to the system, defenses, and speed of the NBA, Derrick seemed to be a little less aggressive in January. His assist numbers increased greatly, and his rebounding numbers returned to normal, but his scoring took a little bit of a backseat as he seemed to focus on some of the other facets of his game. The return of Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng from injury (and the subtraction of Larry Hughes) also helped his assist numbers. His turnovers also, were down from 2.8 per game in December to 2.4 in January. Sidenote: Derrick led the Bulls to their first 3 game winning streak in 2 years.
Standout Game:
January 31st Win at Phoenix – 26 Points, 4 Assists, 6 Rebounds, 1 Dunk on Barbosa’s Face on 12/19 Shooting

February:
15.8 PPG, 6.3 APG, 4.0 RPG
In February, Rose seemed to find his balance of aggressiveness and creation. He got his scoring numbers back up to close to normal, while maintaining decently higher assist numbers. His rebounding stayed sound, and Derrick seemed to find his game. On February 18th, though, the team went through a huge transformation with the trades. Derrick had to readjust his game again and try to implement the new players/styles. The team struggled late in February due to this.
Standout Game:
February 18th Win at Milwaukee – 18 Points, 9 Assists, 5 Rebounds on 5/9 Shooting

March:
16.9 PPG, 5.9 APG, 5.1 RPG
In March, Derrick readjusted to his new teammates and led the Bulls to a 9-7 record. His scoring made a return as the Bulls were playing for a playoff spot. His new teammates also helped open up the floor for him. Derrick’s assist numbers suffered a little, most probably due to his urge to be more aggressive. However, he had his best rebounding month so far.
Standout Game:
March 6th vs. Milwaukee – 27 Points, 6 Assists, 1 Rebound, 1 Crushed Playoff Hope on 10/18 Shooting

April:
19.5 PPG, 7.5 APG, 3.8 RPG – Best Month of the Season
Derrick really turned it on for the playoff run. His scoring and assists jumped up and the Bulls went 5-1. This is the Derrick I expect to see all of next year. The team completely meshed together and played very well. The only reason Derrick’s rebound numbers fell was probably due to the great play of Tyrus, Noah, and Brad Miller. Great month. Great Season.
Standout Game:
April 13th Win at Detroit – 24 Points, 8 Assists, 5 Rebounds, The 7th Seed on 9/17 Shooting
