How did I get into Hockey? Grew up with it. Started as a Blues fan way back and transitioned into a Hawks fan. My favorite player is Al Macinnis and Bobby Orr.
I watched hockey on Sports Channel with my dad and later listened to games on the radio, bought the NHL ticket and commuted to games from Indiana until moving to Chicago in 2004. The following season we would get the lockout and Gary Bettman pissed in all of our mouths, so I was forced to watch the Wolves.
I lived 5 minutes from the UC (Humboldt Park), so that allowed many games for $8 seats. Once WWW passed, I was on the phone that morning to get season tickets.
IHN transfer (O board nomad).

I will talk about poop.
You have been warned.

Your favorite all-time Hawks player: Brookbag aka Sheldon Brookbank (because his job was to get punched in the face alot and he knew it)

How did you get into hockey? I became a hockey fan when I was in my Junor/Senior years of High School. I was not really a Blackhawks fan initially. I had 2 cousins who played semi-pro hockey in the leagues underneath the AHL, mostly they played in the UHL for the Kalamazoo K-Wings when I actually got to see them play back when the K-Wings were in the UHL. Because of my cousins and going to some of their games I got interested in the sport and looked for a Chicago team to latch onto. Also, during the time period of those 2 years I was layed up having surgeries on my leg so I was constantly looking for stuff to occupy my time. Anyways I couldn't watch the Hawks much cause they were not on TV most of the time but every single AHL Chicago Wolves game was broadcast on my local cable channel so I latched on to the Wolves for a few seasons. Every Friday or Saturday they seemed to have a game and I would hunker down with a large quantity of food and watch the Wolves. Then I started at UIUC and they had a club hockey team that destroyed people and we would go to those games every Friday.... they were winning games scoring like 10-15 goals in a game at times. It was kinda crazy to watch.... and then finally the Hawks got the TV deal and I started watching the Hawks and never looked back as a Hockey fan. I maintain Hockey is the best sport to watch in person of all professional sports.

Kris Versteeg trains as a kickboxer in the offseason and I am waiting to see the first hockey fight head kick KO.... which also might turn into the first hockey fight skate murder.... hopefully it happens to Raffi Torres

How did you get into hockey? I'm really not...definitely as bandwagon as can be lol. I'm trying to get more into it though. I've been familiar with the Hawks forever since they share the UC with the Bulls, but I never really watched them play until the second Cup run. I realized they're super good and I've consistently watched the playoff runs since then, but haven't found as much time for the regular season (basketball and hockey like to conflict and you may guess where my preference is). Trying to get that balance though. I started the "Teach me about hockey thread" to help me and others like me learn about the game, so hopefully that is also a helpful tool for helping me get to know all you gurus as well.

Watched games growing up (Crystal Lake 70-80s) when I could on TV. Started going to minor league games when I lived in Phoenix (IHL Roadrunners in the early 90s) and the 90s Blackhawks teams on TV when I could. Really started watching them avidly in 2000 when I first got DTV and CenterIce. Cut my teeth on the original Blackhawks message board, moved to IHN when it became oppressively censored and now here. I've been chatting with most of the IHN guys since the original o-boards. They are good bunch of guys/gals for the most part.

How did you get into hockey?
Used to watch the games in the 90s as a kid with my Uncle and Gramps. Played roller and ice growing up until I dropped out of college hockey (nothing glamorous, acha). Originally started off posting on the officials almost 10 years ago, met a bunch of current IHN transfers via Hawks games and prospects camp. Ton and I started IHN with some help from oldjello (Paul) and a few others who no longer are around. I've gotten more out of the Blackhawks then just a game. I've met some great people, taken part in some great events and had created some great memories, especially in the past 4 years. Glad we can keep some of the IHN group together and join the rest of CCS to help create a larger community.

Casually got into Blackhawks during first recent Cup playoffs series. My firstborn was born in the final stretch and they went on to win. 3 years later, my second child is born during the next run and they win it all again. Kind of neat. Looking to learn more about hockey and posting more in here as I learn. Feels safer posting here than in the Bears forum where fucktards constantly bait me and then report my responses to get me banned. Dmelt seems like a solid Mod, so that's cool. Looking forward to seeing the Hawks' season progress, looks like they are getting HOT!

Seems like we have similar experiences over there.

Sounds like you and the wife need to start making babies in October of every year.

Your favorite current Hawks player: I'm really digging Saad lately. He is like a mini Hossa. Pretty much anyone called up from Rockford as well. So far this season, those kids aren't missing a beat with the vets on the ice.
Your favorite all-time Hawks player: Ruutu. Any other answer given by anyone else is false. Ruutu is the best former Hawk. EVER. I like watching old footage of Maggie. I wasn't around for that era, but there's something about him I always liked. Larmer was neat as well.

How did you get into hockey? I started paying attention to hockey late 90's/early oughts. My dad always was a Chicago sports guy, not a meatball though. When we lived in Utah(I was born in Utah), we had cable just so my dad could watch the Cubs. My folks moved to the Chicagoland area the year of the Bears superbowl win, and I found them a few years later and moved back in with them. I went to a Hawks game with Pops in the old barn, but I was too young to appreciate it for what it was. I became friends with a fella who was big into the Flyers. I would go to his house and watch Philly play. That's where I learned about the game. I started paying attention to the Hawks around that time as well, cause damn it, I live in Chicago. That's when the greatest Hawk of all time was drafted. Ruutu. During the Flyers run prior to the lockout in 04/05, I rooted for them, as they had nuthin but old Hawks on the roster. After the lockout, I saw an add that the Hawks were looking for Ice Crew gals. My sister-in-law at the time had just graduated from kowledge, and she used to skate. I figured she would be a good fit. Low and behold, she got the gig, and I was able to go a lot of games. I was happy to cheer for Aucoin. Yeah. Aucoin. It's amazing that anyone showed up to the UC. I became a sth right before they went on their Cup run in 10.

I started lurking on the O-boards, and I picked up even more knowledge about the game. Some fans are a great resource for insight on the game, why it is played that way, why a player does whatever it is they do, and so on. The message boards are a great forum. I was part of the mass exodus from the O's when McDunno and his ilk came in and buttoned everything down. IHN was a great place for HONEST hockey talk. I also got to know other posters away from the boards. It has been great seeing what they have become and what they have accomplished. I may not post a lot anymore, but I will do my best to come by and poke the bear once in a while and be a general asshat.

How did you get into hockey? When I was 10 or 11 completely on my own, just caught it on TV. None of my family were hockey fans. I was actually a Sabres fan at first, then of course decided to start rooting for the home team just in time for them to be on the decline and start sucking in the late 90's. Pat Lafontaine is still my all time favorite player (and I wear 16 when I play).

Your favorite current Hawks player: #65 ... Loved him when I first saw him in Prospects Camp and couldn't get enough of his blue-collar play ever since.
Your favorite all-time Hawks player: Jeremy Roenick... til he wore other jerseys.
Favorite teams - Hawks, Jets, Ducks, Lightning, Nordiques, Canadiens (til the Nordiques come back). Why a division rival, you say? Two reasons ---- Teemu's old team's name, even though it isn't his old team, and they also are affiliates with a team I help be a part of in starting up. There's a long story with that.
Rivals - Kings (Have been since 1994), Red Wings, Stars, Oilers

How did you get into hockey? Thats a funny story... I'm originally from Los Angeles, and I got into hockey during the old Wayne Gretzky years. I loved when people at school kept talking about the Hawks-Penguins Cup Finals ages ago and I couldn't get enough of the sport. Then in 93' when it was the Kings-Canadiens Cup Finals, it cemented my love for the sport right there. I didn't want to seem like a bandwagon jumper, so I stayed with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim when they emerged onto the scene. Even through all the Disney stuff and all that, I still stuck around loving and defending the sport I loved.

I ended up working as an intern with the team as well in 2001 and have a Cup championship on my resume from those days. ;) I ended up moving here in 2007 due to losing my house and being unemployed for a bit... I ended being welcomed here and also as a part of the IHN family since 2007 and the story continues on. :) .... -.- Yes, its been 7 yrs with these pranksters.

No worries about the Ducks-Hawks games. I know who to side for, regardless of my ties. My past is my past. That will never change. I love Chicago more than where I used to live.

Just a heads up ---- I'm the IHN resident gay guy. Don't be surprised if you see any gay jokes flying around. I'm not surprised by them, I actually expect to see them when I'm in here, and we are a very tolerant and supportive bunch. :) If you see a joke, note I will not be offended by it. Usually, I add on to it... lol

I think it was funnier when people found out Wolfie wasn't a girl than it was they realized he was gay...
