Not at all worried that it won't get done, but I'm quite surprised that these two haven't already been signed.

I'm a little concerned that the Hawks haven't reached a deal with Toews yet. I thought that one would have been wrapped up early.

David Kaplan reporting Kane / Toews cap hits will be around $10.8. Reasonable.

Kaplan isn't exactly what I'd call a hockey guru, so I'll wait for confirmation. But it doesn't surprise me at all. These two are smart enough to know that if the Hawks keep winning that there are tons of marketing opportunities for them. If they get greedy, it makes it all that more difficult to keep this going with other key players soon getting their paydays as well.

I understand it as $10.8M AAV for Kane and Toews each individually.

In 4-5 years, as long as the cap continues to rise, a $10.8 million AAV won't be bad at all. Not too far from free agents picking up that kind of cash every summer.

Also counts that extra year that free agents who don't sign a contract extension cannot get.

If they do sign for that they won't have dick behind them for a while. They're entitled to that choice.

Maybe the cap won't be going jumping like people thought. It was the union that wanted the lower number this offseason, iirc.
