If you woke up this morning wondering "What's Martin Havlat been up to?" Well, he retired.

Nicknamed “Mach 9” in recognition of his explosive skating and jersey number, Havlat was drafted out of the Czech Extraliga (HC Ocelari Trinec) by the Ottawa Senators, 26th overall, in the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Armed with great speed and a blistering wrist shot, Havlat impressed in his debut season (19-23—42) to finish as a Calder Memorial Trophy finalist in 2000-01, and he was also named to the NHL All-Rookie team. He helped Ottawa earn the 2002-03 Presidents’ Trophy, and during the club’s playoff push to the Eastern Conference Final, Havlat posted 5-6—11. He went on to set a career-high with 31 goals the next season, while averaging a point-per-game in his 68 appearances. Havlat spent a total of five seasons with the Senators and helped the club reach the postseason each year (14-20—34 in 41 playoff GP).

A testament to his knack for timely goal-scoring in Ottawa, with 23 game-winning goals in 298 regular season games, Havlat was recently named to the Senators’ 25th anniversary team as voted by the fans.

In July 2006, the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Havlat alongside Bryan Smolinski — sending Tom Preissing, Josh Hennessy, Michal Barinka and their 2008 second round draft pick in return. This led to Havlat wearing jersey No. 24 for the first time in his career. The change appeared to agree with Havlat, who in his first game as a Blackhawk on Oct. 5, 2006, matched two goals with two assists, and completed a bounce back season from his shoulder injury by making his first NHL All-Star Game appearance in 2007.

Havlat spent three seasons in Chicago, which he punctuated with an impressive 2008-09 season when he set career-best marks in assists (48), points (77) and plus/minus (+29) in 81 games. He led the team in assists and points, while he placed second behind teammate Jonathan Toews’ 34 goals. For his efforts, he was named the Blackhawks’ team MVP. He was also a key playoff contributor for Chicago that season. In the opening game of the first round, Havlat netted both the game-tying and game-winning goals. He led the team with 15 points on their run to the Western Conference Final.

The owner of Little Ceasars has passed away/owner of the red wings, both equal accomplishments, one had a resurrection to hockey town under him, one had the best pizza TV commercials.

I guess he also owned that Detroit baseball team but who cares bout them

This is the second time Therrien was fired by the Canadiens in-season and replaced by Julien. Montreal made the same move in January 2003, when Julien was the coach of their American Hockey League affiliate.

I'm so confused by that Montreal hiring.

And the first stretch didn't go so great, they barely gave him two full seasons firing him half way through the second full season. Very strange... but here it's interesting because he comes straight from the Bruins who he has intimate knowledge of and will be squaring off with directly....

I don't know why, but this honestly was one of the funniest things I've read on here in a long time. I had an audible chuckle.

Ducks' Antoine Vermette might face suspension after slashing at official

(video in link)

Feb 15, 2017

Anaheim Ducks forward Antoine Vermette was ejected from his team's road game against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday for abuse of an official.
Vermette slashed at the leg of linesman Shandor Alphonso after losing a faceoff with 7:33 of the third period to earn a 10-minute penalty for game misconduct.
In addition to the ejection, Vermette could face further discipline.
Per the NHL's Rule 40.3, deliberately applying physical force to an official in any manner comes with an automatic 10-game suspension.
Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman was suspended 20 games for abuse of an official last season, after cross-checking a ref on his way back to the bench. Wideman's suspension was later reduced to 10 games through an appeal.
The Ducks won Tuesday night's game 1-0.
In his first season with the Ducks, Vermette has eight goals and 14 points in 57 games.

The line on the scroller said he had indeed been suspended for 10 games, but he's appealing... Pretty cut and dry here. Haven't seen it, the video in the link it to PTI...

I looked it up, it wasn't horrible, but still way too much he's lucky it was only 10. 10 has to stick at minimum.

So Crosby officially became the 86th 1000 point player.

If we ever got a current hawks vs pens final I think Crosby might go slash crazy on Keiths elbow
