2014 Offseason. Post league-wide happenings here...signings, trades, small news items.

Of course threads within their own are still okay too.

Offseason Schedule (paraphrased from Reddit):

  • 2014/06/26 - NBA Draft. Picks 16 and 19
  • 2014/07/01 - NBA Free Agency begins
  • 2014/07/05 - Orlando Summer League starts (ends 2014/07/11). Bulls aren't in it.
  • 2014/07/11 - Las Vegas Summer League begins (ends 2014/07/21)
  • 2014/07/12 - LVSL vs. Clippers
  • 2014/07/13 - LVSL vs. Nuggets
  • 2014/07/15 - LVSL vs. Timberwolves (there are games after this, but we don't know which ones the Bulls will play in until we get to that round)

  • 2014/08/16 - USA vs. Brazil exhibition game
  • 2014/08/20 - USA vs. Dominican Republic exhibition game
  • 2014/08/22 - USA vs. Puerto Rico exhibition game
  • 2014/08/26 - USA vs. Slovenia exhibition game
  • 2014/08/30 - FIBA World Cup 2014 begins (ends 2014/08/14)

Dwyane Wade will reportedly opt out and sign a new deal that gives the heat more financial flexibility.

There hasn't been much talk yet about which teams will compete hardest for the two big Wizards free agents. There's an unspoken thought that someone will, but that team hadn't emerged.Until now, it seems. Two different rumors suggest the Dallas Mavericks have bothMarcin Gortat and Trevor Ariza high on their wish list.

First, from ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Marc Stein:
They also have significant interest in Washington'sMarcin Gortat, whom they recruited as a restricted free agent in 2009, signing him to an offer sheet that was surprisingly matched by the Orlando Magic.
Sources, however, say the Mavericks fear they'll be priced out of the hunt to pry Gortat from the Wizards, who have ample space under the salary cap and are interested in keeping the 29-year-old Gortat as part of a young core of the team that broke the franchise's five-year postseason drought and advanced to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

If Washington can't find suitable replacements, that might hinder their overall development next season if they lost both. I always figured Washington would over pay to keep both since no star wants to go to D.C.

Tim Duncan exercises $10.3M option

Tim Duncan has decided to continue his career for an 18th season with the San Antonio Spurs and has exercised his $10.3 million player option for next season, sources told ESPN.com.

After winning his fifth NBA title this month, Duncan said he was undecided on his future. He had until Tuesday to pick up his option or opt to become a free agent on July 1. There was some discussion about working out a new contract for Duncan, but he elected to stay in his deal.

Duncan, 38, had a strong season, averaging 15.1 points and 9.7 rebounds in 74 regular-season games and then putting up 16.3 points and 9.2 rebounds over 23 playoff games.

The Spurs are now assured to have their three-player core of Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker back for their title defense. All three are entering the final season of their contracts.

Yahoo! Sports earlier reported Duncan was opting into his contract.

That's a pretty good offer for Cleveland imo. They can stick Afflalo in at SG and bring Waiters off the bench or something then use the other two 1sts to go after whatever other positions they want. Maybe they go for Randle to give them an actual post scorer if they decide Tristin Thompson can go screw off somewhere else. It gives them a real chance at depth. Of course, you then miss out on the potential awesomeness of Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins.

LeBron is running that organization, not Riley. His highness runs the point most of the time, not sure why he cares who the PG is.
