Cubs starting playing in two and half hours. Nats have won five in row. Cubs have won three in row. Might be Jason Hammel's last Cubs start.

I am expecting a 2 hit shutout....... For the next 7 games.. We used up our months worth of offense in that last game in Bawston.

Cubs are getting some power from their outfielders lately
Schierholtz and Ruggiano

Looks like they brought some of that offense with them from Boston

Which is very odd considering how the Cubs usually fare after a huge offensive game... But keep proving me wrong! I like it!

I've been telling you guys for a while that Ruggiano is a decent bat. He isn't special or anything but he is hardly the problem on this Cubs offense. Coghlan and Schierholtz hitting is just making things work out like I had hoped they would have to start the year.

I noticed something similar right around the time he returned from the DL. I haven't been following it closely but I don't recall him starting daily and he probably should be if he isn't already. Throw out Lake or Schierholtz and he's better than either. I guess they were trying to give Nate a chance to up his value as a trade piece but he's not really even been situationally good. Bad in all months thus far. Bad vs both righties and lefties.

I wrote in January that Ruggiano might be the Cubs best OF. Not terribly high praise but it appears to be turning out to be true.

Ruggiano has squared the ball up nicely lately. He has a good swing with a little pop. Truthfully, I wish Sweeney could hit more like Ruggiano or Ruggiano could play D like Sweeney. Sweeney is a pretty damn good defensive CF.

I still think Castro is leading the SS in XBH. I think they said he is third in the NL in doubles. Like I said, if Castro can give 15-20 homers a season with close to 50 doubles. I will take it all day long. That will make him a very good player for a very long time.

If this was Hammel last game as a cub he may have increased his value a bit.
6IP 5 H 2ER 7 K. Lowered his ERA to 2.98. Chance at his 8th win

97 K in 102 IP
