arrieta is not an ace

Never said he was.

 at you thinking Arrieta is an ace.

Where did I say that?

Only in CO's world.

Again, never said Arrieta wasa an ace.

when you say arrieta is an ace you invite trouble. just facts.

Good thing I didn't say that, huh?

arrieta is not an ace

Too early to tell. He didn't have the make up he has now before. Late breaking slider in the upper 80's. Using his change to adjust speeds. Before he was abasicly a 2 pitch pitcher.

That said he needs to prove it still that what he is doing now is not a fluke. We saw this with Wood.

That said I wouldn't say Shields would be a 2 to Jake....Shields is proven.

I'm still thinking they should go after Maeda. 26-27 YO. Nmbers were just a tick under Tanaka's. Let Lester and Schzer make waves while Theo buys Maeda.

Arrieta isn't more proven than Shields now. Put down the Kool aid along with the big fairy.

shields slots ahead of arrieta. there is no discussion. say you are a contender and you need 1 SP to feel more confident about winning a title. the best choice is shields. its a worthless debate with CO because if it was shields who was on the cubs and not arrieta he would choose shields.

Shields track record is way over Arrieta. If Arrieta goes into next year pitching the same then yes, I would take Arrieta over him just because of age. Arrieta was a highly touted player. Never put it together. It seems the Cubs taught him that nasty slider/cutter. If he can keep his control and throw that pitch then he could be really great. I dont care who you are a fan of. That is one of the nastiest pitches in the game right now. I do believe Bosio is a very good coach. The only thing is he seems to not teach how to keep runners close on the basepaths. Our pitchers give our catchers very little chance. But, if that is how he teachers so they dont get into bad habits then so be it.

As I have said thru the entire season he's great. Top five imo.

Considering how he has taken so-so talent and gotten the most out of it. I would say so. Not to mention Theo has signed these guys on a 1 year in their peak season.

The game plan did not suck. Feldman got a nice contract out of it the next year. Maholm still has a job. I'm not sure what the deal is with Hammels though. Dude fell off the table. A's park is not a bad place to pitch. Meh thinks he belongs in the NL next year.

That said my pecking order is still

Kenta Maeda
http://www.baseball-reference.com/japan/player.cgi?id=maeda-001ken

Age is a big factor here. 27 on Apr 11. Seeing how Tanaka got 150 mil 130 mil would be a strong offer here. He has #1 peripherals.

Seeing how Tanaka's production played the same vs American comp I'm not too concerned here.

Not to mention he doesn't have the heavy IP that Tanaka had coming over. He has avg around 200 per season. 1.044 career WHIP. 1.9 BB/9 7.2 SO/9.

Looking at a team with a young core he makes more sense than a 33 yo Shields. 3 year deal covers Shields 33-36 yo seasons. All in decline. VS Maeda a 6 year deal covers his 27-32 yo seasons and those are his peak years.

Lester I'm guessing goes back to the Red Sox. Shields gets picked up by the Yanks. Yanks don't care about age. Max Scherzer is the wild card here. His agent is Scott Boras and all of his clients go into F/A to prove their value. That is why the Tigers traded for Price. Any client of Boras will not extend.

To be honest I'm not sure where he lands. I see a Q-offer attached to him. Tigers would be stupid not to. I just can't think of 1 team that would offer a mega contract though. Yanks just did with Tanaka and still have C.C.'s to bare. They have a clear need for a TOR but I see them going for Shields instead. Phills I see reloading and turning over. Balt is a maybe. Not sure if they are a big boy market team though. A's doubtful. Seat maybe. Well all I got.

I was accually thinking that your team would be smart to deal with Boras here. TOR of Sale/Scherzer Scary

Not to mention I heard there was a war in Tax-ass for the first pick. Rangers did a great job trading for Fielder's fat ass to sink the ship.

Thing about the sox it is a team that can get the city's support if they are winning. Most of my friends that I grew up with were sox fans. I was the odd one as a Cubs fan.

I always saw the sox rep the blue collar worker or the back bone of the city. Cubs are like a relic. If they start winning not sure if it a good thing. The lovable losers tag sells.

The lovable loser thing set sail in 2003. At that time a lot of Cubs fans woke up and realized that, as a large market team with a massive fan base, the Cubs should be more competitive year to year. Locally, expectations were raised. The national media kept going with the lovable loser thing however because it's lazy and it's something it was comfortable with.
