CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs begin a four-game series with the first-place Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.

i
i
Monday: Jake Arrieta (6-3, 2.80) vs. Yovani Gallardo (6-6, 3.54), 7:05 p.m.
Tuesday: Kyle Hendricks (3-1, 2.10) vs. Wily Peralta (14-6, 3.42), 7:05 p.m.
Wednesday: Tsuyoshi Wada (1-1, 3.25) vs. Kyle Lohse (11-6, 3.33), 7:05 p.m.
Thursday: Edwin Jackson (6-12, 5.61) vs. Mike Fiers (1-1, 1.80), 1:20 p.m.

Extra innings: The Cubs have played six extra-inning games in their last 12 marking the most in that time frame since 1983.

Baez watch: Due to striking out 12 times in his first six games, Javier Baez is seeing a lot of pitches. He's averaging 4.24 pitches per plate appearance so far compared to the league average of 3.83. But he has yet to earn a walk in his first six games.

Who's Hot/Who's Not: Starlin Castro has a nine-game hitting streak heading into the series on Monday. He's 15-for-37 (.405) during that stretch. Arismendy Alcantara was 1-for-10 (.100) over the weekend while Chris Coghlan was 2-for-14 (.143).

Replay has to change. Castro was safe.

If Rizzo hadn't struck out, Baez likely would have scored on Castros fly out.

Javi looked pretty good on his last at bat. It's nice to watch him learning. And damn, Mendy looking like he's feels pretty comfy in C! If Mendy could eventually hang around a 300 average, it would be huge moving forward.

That's great but you can't strike out looking like Rizzo did in that situation. It's no wonder teams struggle to score. Guys need to make productive outs. That was pure garbage.

Baez needs to be prepared to go to RF here.

Gotta love Arrieta's wasted AB. Nice call for the bunt with 2 strikes. ROFL.

Baez power worked against him in that at bat. He hit that ball off the end of the bat and it almost went to the track. I thought it was going to be a bloop hit. lol

It was off the end of his bat because he was pull happy.

Seemingly everyone in the Cub organization swings for the fences most of the time.

Where are the hitting coaches?

Rizzo had a great July - and can't stop swinging for the fences.

I was glad he was not in the HR derby because I didn't want him to start swinging like this. But he has anyway. Ever since he briefly took the league lead in HRs.

Anybody else thinks Bryant catches that line drive at 6'5", he's got 7 inches over Valbuena at 5'10".

I'm wondering if Coghlan is working himself into a job for the next 2-3 years until prospects push him out. If I understand the rules right he still has two more years of arbitration the cubs can use.

Yeah, but it showed the play nicely on the play at the plate, especially with the new rule.

I am tired of a dope in NY looking at video and telling the umpire what the call is. The decision needs to be with the crew chief and the umpire who made the call in question.

Welcome to the world of a 21 year old aggressive hitter.

It's just that pitchers are going to avoid his power in those circumstances and going to RF is usually an easy RBI. Sammy Sosa would go for he fences with a runner at 2nd and 2 outs. He'd often strike out but when he was hitting 60 HRs you could kind of justify this. But he still did the same nonsense once his production dropped off.

I don't like that it's in NY because of favoritism/bias that comes with it.
