Thoughts?

Possible expansion continues to be an evolving topic in the NHL. It may still be a couple years on the horizon, but when it does happen, Las Vegas will be one of the cities receiving an expansion team, according to Tony Gallagher of The Province.

Citing sources close to the situation, Gallagher reports an expansion team to Las Vegas is a "done deal" with the decision on an ownership group the only thing yet to be determined. Las Vegas has long been mentioned as one of the possible expansion cities, along with Seattle, Kansas City and Quebec City.

If Gallagher's report is accurate, Las Vegas could have its first major professional sports team sooner rather than later. There is still some question of where a Las Vegas NHL team would play. The AEG-MGM arena project broke ground in early May and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2016, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. According to the report, the arena will be built to NHL and NBA specifications. There are also other proposed Las Vegas arena plans, including the Silver State Arena and the Downtown Las Vegas Arena.
