I guess Lester pitching in all those Red Sox World Series winners doesn't count anymore?

2008 was 6 years ago so that doesn't count unless you want to hop in a vehicle with Marty McFly to jump the space time continuum. 2013 he was money, 2014 he sucks thus far. I'll go with the more recent stats in determining if I want to pursue him and at what cost.

*2007.

So, the one game where he isn't any good outweighs the precedent of pitching well in the playoffs?

Okay, have fun with that.

You're not very bright are you. In 2013, he pitched extremely well. Prior to 2013, his last postseason appearance was 2009 when he had a 4.50 ERA. In the current playoffs, he has a 7.36 ERA.

If you want to give him a $200 million deal for 2013, welp, have fun with that.

2009: PITCHED ONE GAME. That isn't a sample size, or anything
2008: 2.36 ERA
2007: 1.94 ERA

I GUESS HE JUST CAN'T PITCH IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!1

Lol at you questioning ANYONE not being bright. Go be stupid somewhere else.

(ERA is also a terrible unit to judge a pitcher, btw. )

Yep, using facts as evidence to support my argument. I sure am Special person.

This thread is about whether Lester is worth what he will demand in the offseason. Only a fucking Special person (and clearly you are) would use 2007 and 2008 in deciding how much to offer him. You're not getting 2007-2008 Lester. You're getting 2014.

God Damn you are a Special person. And I'm done replying to you. I can't handle your stupidity anymore tonight.

I never used 2007, and 2008 to "decide how much to offer him". I used 2007, and 2008 to disprove the opinion in the thread that Lester can't pitch well in the playoffs. So, please, do not put words in my mouth.

You should also know that 2014 was Lester's second best season ever, his first being 2009, since that is what you claim the team singing him is getting.

So, you want the Cubs to only pursue pitchers who are perfect?

That seems reasonable.

Lester was 4-1 in 2013, and gave up 4 in 7 /3 in 2014. Yeah, let's pass and stick with Edwin Jackson instead.

I am shocked that this thread was even made.

Well, in fairness, Billy acquired Lester for the playoffs. And Lester let them down big time. A 7+ ERA just ain't gonna cut it.

Regular season is irrelevant if you don't also deliver in the playoffs. In the 2009 playoffs, he had a 4.5 ERA and now he has a 7.3 ERA. Now bend over son.
