Well Im mostly refering to actual discussion threads. Everyone posts quick oneliners. But if there was an award for most posts, than people would start posting that kind of quality everywhere and anywhere just to win that award. Its good to promote activity, but not at the cost of losing integrity imo.
I honestly just don't think that would encourage short, meaningless posts...but I didn't mean add it as a reward, either...my fault for not being clear...
you can add a button (similar to the "Top Posters of the Month" button under "Quick Links") just to let you see who's the top posters of the day...

Well shit man, I misunderstood myself. I get the concept you meant, my bad for thinking it had an award possibility as well. But yeah, thats no different than the Monthly stat, so not a bad additional option. And no, cant see it encouraging less quality either in posts.
