Polian is too old now to be the GM. However, bringing him in as President (or VP, whatever) of football operations and letting Sweaty Teddy take care of the finances would be a much better option.

He was on with Mully and Hanley either last week or Monday and they asked if he was interested in getting back in as a GM. He said he was too old to have to deal with demands of a GM job (scouting, contract negotiations, etc) but if the right role were to present itself...

Get it done George! You'd let Polian decide if Phil stays, but he'd have final say on major decisions. And he can give Phil a shortlist of potential new head coaches.

"If the right opportunity presented itself" was in the context of a team president or football czar, not as a GM.

I read that as meaning, "make Polian the president."

Phil is viewed as having everything you want in a GM. He is ulta prepared, has spent time in various roles, and has a background as a scout. That being said, if the team finishes 6-10 or worse, I don't see how he stays. I know he would eventually put a great product on the field, but you can't have as high of a payroll as we do and have the team get progressively worse in your first three years.
