I know September is going to be clinch city but I'm excited to see if Candelario and Almora can continue to build on their excellent years at Iowa.

Almora hurt his hand. Not sure he'll play again this year. Supposedly was seeing a hand specialist.

Where are you getting this information? I see a twitter post about a baby. No hand issue. All the outlets I see are expecting him to be a call up.

Didn't Almora have a busted hand before?

#Cubs are expecting injured outfielder Albert Almora Jr., back today. Manager Marty Pevey said he could be activated this weekend. #MiLB— Tommy Birch (@TommyBirch) August 25, 2016

Almora returned to action last night. Guess I was overly worried for him but usually when you're going to see a specialist it's not something where you are playing a week later.

Cease pitched tonight. 5 IP, 1 unearned run(passed ball), 2 hits 4 bb 8 k's, 84 pitches 50 strikes. Not quite as efficient as you'd like with his pitches but at A- it's not really super surprising and obviously the rest is good save for the walks.

Didn't realize it until this morning but Clifton also pitched last night.

6 IP, 3 H, 7 K

Between him, Cease and De La Cruz who goes tonight, the cubs have a lot of intriguing young arms suddenly.

Candelario might not have been ready for the MLB but damn if he didn't crush AAA this year. In 295 PAs he's hitting .327/.417/.538 with 9 HRs. It'll be interesting to see what plays out with trade talks this coming winter. The only real big name 3B's that will be out there are Prado and Justin Turner. Rest of the guys are average or worse. I'd be some what surprised if Candelario makes the cubs roster. They are just so loaded with position players and he doesn't offer a ton of flexibility.

I'd really like to see them pry Max Fried away from Atlanta. They are loaded with pitching as 18 of their top 30 prospects are pitchers and even though he's a lefty, they have 3 lefty prospects who rate higher than him on mlb.com. Given he's 22 in A ball and given their oldest current starter is 27, it would make some sense if they are gonna trade someone for it to be him rather than the numerous guys they have between 18-20. The cubs are pretty weak in LHP. You're talking about Bryan Hudson, Steele, Sands, Paulino and Zastryzny. No one else really worth mentioning. Steele and Sands haven't even looked that good.

Seems like a win-win trade to me. They are starting Adonis Garcia who's 31 and not really worth talking about. They largely are waiting on the 16 year old Kevin Maitan who's drawn Miguel Cabrera comps. Candelario would allow them to bridge the several year gap for relatively cheap. Cubs obviously need long term pitching options and they don't necessarily need them today but in the next couple of years for sure. Before he had TJS, Fried drew some Cole Hamels comps. He's not quite pitched to that level yet and being set back by a year didn't help but the upside is obviously there.

Little bit behind on minor league stuff but De La cruz pitched the 7th. 6 IP, 8 hits, 1 ER, 0 walks 7 k's in the playoff game. Clifton was also quite good in his playoff game throwing 6 innings, 4 hits, 1 ER, 1 walk and 6 k's.
