10 Chicago Bears Headlines That Would Seem To Indicate Certain Death In 2010 — Blog Down, Chicago Bears

via blogdown...

1. Julius Peppers Says Knee Is Fine, Should Play In Season Opener

Oh my God. Imagine the consequences if Julius Peppers misses any significant time (knocks on wood). With Alex Brown in N’Awleans and Adewale Ogunleye floating around NFL purgatory somewhere, the Bears would be in dire straits.

2. Lovie Smith “Feels Good” About Steltz And Manning As Safety Starters

This would never happen…willingly. If Chris Harris/Al Afalava and Major Wright were unable to play (assuming Wright can play), the Bears defense would be as equally doomed as their 2009 version. Nothing against Steltz; I’ve heard some good things about his progression, but neither him, nor Manning, are suitable starters for a “legitimate contender.” For the record, I’m pretty sure Lovie Smith would also remain optimistic upon being told he could never fuck again.

3. Omiyale Ready To Take On The Challenge At Left Guard, Again

It didn’t work last year. It won’t work this year. I’m not saying Omiyale is a worthless offensive lineman, I’m just saying if he can beat out the likes of Kevin Shaffer, Josh Beekman and Johan Asiata, we’re fucked. He’s working at right tackle right now and for good reason: I would feel exponentially better with him as far away from Cutler’s blindside as possible. Speaking of…

4. Jay Cutler, Paris Hilton Seen “Canoodling”

Stay the fuck away from him, you dirty whore! Remember, Brian Urlacher really did give Hilton a piggy-back ride through a Vegas casino after the heel on her shoe broke, and then for weeks afterward, Hilton would bust out an Urlacher jersey every so often. She was even in the press box at Soldier Field to witness us get shellacked on Monday night. Windy City Heat needs no distractions…or more disease.

5. With One Game To Go: Forte, Taylor Set Eyes On 1,000 Combined Yards Rushing

Now that the Bears have another workhorse back to run interchangeably with Matt Forte, it’s probably unlikely either, Forte or Chester Taylor, will gain 1,000 yards rushing or more on their own. However, each should be able to pick up, at least, 1,400 yards together. If we’re 15 games into the season, and they’ve yet to surpass the 1,000-yard mark as a tandem, it means the Bears have five wins. Or Cutler has 5,000 yards passing.

6. Bears Won’t Let 0-4 Start Discourage Them

Two division opponents and two tough, NFC East teams. The Bears get a slight break with a couple of games after this four-game stretch, but, after that, it gets even harder. A slow start would be almost impossible to rebound from.

7. Rashied Davis To See Increased Role On Offense

This is sort of true, already. There has been talk of Rashied Davis, a natural slot receiver, seeing more reps in Martz’ new offense. The problem is, we have such a clusterfuck of rather talented receivers — Bennett, Aromashodu, Hester, Knox, Iglesias — to play Davis more, would mean to play these guys less. Sans Iglesias, I’m not really okay with that.

8. Tommie Harris Doesn’t Think It’s In His Head

If we’re talking about Tommie Harris in psychiatric terms, consider the year over with. In past years, Harris has been seemingly plagued by inner demons, causing him to not always give one-hundred percent. With a knee that will likely never be fully healed EVER, Harris needs to get his mind right in order to get the most of his superb talent.

9. Marc Bulger Could Start For Bears On Sunday

A, the Bears went ahead and brought in a veteran back-up. B, Jay Cutler is either hurt or playing horrifically; neither of which, is very good.

10. Greg Olsen Lashes Out For Lack Of Playing Time

Olsen has been told — it’s been told to everyone, actually – that Olsen will have a significant role in Martz’ offense. If it doesn’t come to fruition, that’s one less target for Jay and, you know, team chemistry and all that jazz.
