He's only played two regular season nhl games since start of 10-11 season. It's clearly nota move for the nhl club.

1) Gives Raanta some real competition in traning camp. He can still be sent up and down from Rockford at will and if Leighton looks good and Raanta mails it in his backup position won't be guarenteed.</p>

2) Gives some depth below Raanta in case Raanta or Crawford gets injured. </p>
</p>
The real question is what's the cap status of this deal--I would assuming it's somewhere around 750K</p>
