Ah yes, his great 2006 Postseason run:

3 TDs and 7 INTs

The Colts defense and running game won them that Super Bowl. Manning did make plays in the AFC Championship but he was lethargic as fuck the first two games and he didn't overpower the Bears defense (The Colts run game did). If not for blown coverage by Danieal Manning that left Wayne wide fucking open, he may not have even thrown a TD in the Super Bowl.

He can't be too bad if he got the Broncos to the playoffs with Tim Tebow as his QB!

Yes! Bears expressed want in a veteran HC and a pretty solid one just got canned. Go get him, Pace!

i would be all for this, for the record. he's a proven NFL head coach who i think would be a great fit here. i don't love any of the coordinator candidates. i'm not saying one of them won't end up being a great head coach, but i don't see a guy who screams "this is the next great NFL head coach."

i guess it comes down to if the bears would rather roll the dice on one of these young guys or take a proven coach. yes, it's the safer route with fox, but at least you know you're getting a guy who has done it before. with guys like austin or bowles, as much as players and other coaches trumpet them, you don't have any idea. they could be absolute disasters when taking the next step.

Bad memories for me...we didn't run the ball against the worst run D that year.

Actually no one did that year in playoffs. I know Bob Sanders came back and all...but come on

Rappaport just linked Bears with Fox outlining the fact that we want to pair Pace with a veteran coach. Guess we will know in the next few days.

Didn't he get a playoff win with Tim Tebow?
Yep. 1-4 record with Orton. Inserted Tebow. 7-4. 8-8 and won 1 playoff game. Not only did Fox beat the Bears (the Barber game) with Tebow as a quarterback, Fox's Panthers destroyed the Bears in 05 playoffs, not because of Carolina's defense, but because of Steve Smith and the offense. This guy can coach.

So it was Fox? Sign him.

I was just wondering if pace would want a veteran coach "under" him? Would he feel like he doesn't have enough control, that fox or someone would try to strong hand him? Or would he want a coach that is up and coming to "grow" with him? Time will tell. I'm not the biggest fox fan but like others have said, there isn't a great selection of head coaching candidates this year.

The thing with Fox if he were to be the HC of the Bears

John Fox is a very safe hire. He is someone who can get this team to a respectable place, get to the playoffs, win some games here and there.

The thing is, Fox isn't someone that isn't going to get Pace fired, and is a veteran coach who Pace can lean on as he grows into his role and expands his power within Halas Hall. He's Doug Collins. A safe point A to Point B hire.

Which right now, is ok. Because it could be damaging with a lot of unproven coordinators out there that don't exactly set the world on fire, picking the wrong one could land Pace out of a job.

Hiring Fox, if they do it, is a smart move for Pace and the team long term, because you have a head coach who will leave the team better than he found it, and that will allow Pace to really make a power move at the right time for the right guy, when that time is right.

John Fox isn't exciting, but if hired, he's respectable, and if Pace ends up being a very good one, he can make John Fox look damn good if they find the right quarterback.
