Yes, I am complaining about this again...as I do every year.

Why does the NHL seem to think late weekday starts will improve ratings?.

But the real reason is so they can miss as much prime time television as possible and lower the competition

If that were the case, the NFL and MLB would do the same.

NFL and MLB playoffs are much more popular than prime time network television. They don't need too. NFL is one/two day per week as well. No sitcoms on Saturday/Sunday.

They do... at least NFL with Monday Night Foozeball always being a later start.

The Western games are gonna be late because they want less joint game action time so hockey fans watching east and west serieses don't miss large chunks.

????

Maybe because everything doesn't revolve around eastern and central time zones? Oh wait..they do revolve around eastern time zone for the most part.

Anyways. Late evening games > early afternoon/morning weekend games.

Does hour/hour and a half later start time actually kill people? Babies need their babas? ITS PLAYOFF HOCKEY BITCHES SHUT THE FUCK UP AND ENJOY IT UNLESS IT IS ON SUNDAY MORNINGS OR EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON!!

I haven't seen anything that is considered later than usual for the playoffs or even regular season.

If I took a poll, I'd wager that the majority of fans in the central time zone would choose earlier starts for their respective teams as opposed to watching the east.

Seems like we always get screwed, as 9:30 starts are 7:30 on the west coast...great for them but not so great for us when that first OT game goes until 1AM CST.

Luckily there are no 930 starts, then?

Conversely you have 'hawks fans in central europe who get up at 2:30am just to watch the 'hawks play. That's dedication.

Move the Hawks to the eastern conference, then relocate either team in Florida to Portland or Seattle...where they will actually have a supportive fan base.

This would increase ratings and revenue.

Tampa and Miami are 2 of the larger TV markets...which is why the NHL (and I'm sure sponsors) want them to stay there. Same with Phoenix.

Teams won't be moving - only expansion.

Seattle doesn't have a stadium being built either. Which is a prerequisite.

Vegas currently has a stadium going up, already did a 10,000 season ticket drive - to public only. And now, opened up more tickets to be purchased by casino's and businesses. The NHL executives have already been out here to meet with officials as well. They'll be the next to get a team...probably along with Quebec.

The reason those markets are valued is not due to local teams, but rather fans of out of state teams.

Which just about everyone in Florida is, b/c the majority were not born and raised in the state.

I have lived on both coasts, you will be hard pressed to find anyone wearing Panther or Lightning jerseys...in fact you'll see more Hawks apparel particularly on the west coast. The east coast is chock full of NY fans.

Personally, I don't get why the much later times. I don't ever remember this many 9:30 EST starts before.

That's because you lived in CA. ;)

Well, yeah, but the last time I did was back in 2007. I couldn't forget watching a Stanley Cup Final game at 3 in the morning.
